Chapter 56

Anita walks into her living room and stares at Lisa and Glory, who find it difficult to keep a calm face as they look visibly sad and worried.

"What's wrong?" she asks them, and they burst out crying, staring away from her as they wipe their tears.

Anita stares at Flora standing beside the couch and questions her, "What did you do to them?"

"Nothing," Flora responds, a heaviness evident in her voice as well.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you girls saying anything? Did the bank people come here today, Mother?" Anita calls out to her mother and hurries to her mother's room.

Upon entering, she sees her mother taking off her clothes to dress in a more comfortable outfit, or even her nightgown.

"Mother, did you ask them not to tell me anything?" Anita storms in and asks her mother, who ignores her first daughter's question and continues undressing.

"Mom, I'm asking you," Anita insists. She notices a letter by her mother's handbag, rushes to it, and picks it up.
