59. An attempt to clear her name

EMILY POV

On second thoughts, I contemplated what her actions would be if she found out that I was in a contract marriage and my pregnancy must not be revealed. It would be quite awkward to tell my story.

"I'm worried about carrying a baby for a man who's always in such a mess," I said and I needed no one to tell me that I sounded stupid.

Dr. Maureen let out another laugh and held my hand across the table.

"That's what marriages are, my darling. Sometimes sweet, sometimes sour. Since you love him, work things out with your man. It's already good since you have a little baby coming your way," she said and it made me sad. I wished the baby was out of the way so I would leave the marriage with no regrets or pain.

"Keep your stress level down. Don't think too hard about it. You've been doing great with the baby and you'll be past your trimester soon. Once you start showing, you'll have to be extra careful," she advised.

"Thank you, Doctor," I said and grabbed my bag.
