CHAPTER FIVE

Theo kept pacing with Jonah just watching him. A day has passed but Maddie hasn't woken up yet. Flora, the goddess of healing and childbirth, had already assured Theo that Maddie is just fine and needs some rest but he is still uneasy.

"Have you found Felix?" Theo faced Jonah and he quickly stood.

"Philip and Samuel and some of the soldiers have been hunting him down. Do not worry, Theo. They will find him." Jonah patted his shoulder but Theo just shrugged it away and walked towards the window.

"And if they don't, I will hunt him myself and end his pathetic life with my bare hands." He gritted his teeth before sitting next to Maddie who's lying in his bed.

Jonah left to give them some privacy. Theo caressed Maddie's hair and hoped that she would wake up soon. He doesn't care if she'll snob him as soon as she opens her eyes, as long as she gains consciousness, he's okay with that. Theo clenched his jaw upon remembering what happened that almost took Maddie's life.

Felix, the god of mischief and misfortune, was the reason behind Maddie's accident. He was also the reason why Theo lost his senses for a while. He was known to cause troubles but Theo didn't expect him to go to this extent.

"Anyone who harms you will pay with their life." Theo whispered before standing.

He was about to exit the room when he heard Maddie moan. He quickly sat beside her again and hopefully looked at her. Maddie slowly opened her eyes and the first she saw was the cream-colored ceiling. She looked to her left and saw a big window then she looked the other side and she quickly stood as soon as she saw Theo. He was not sure what to react seeing Maddie's reaction but he's glad that she's finally awake.

Maddie grabbed the blanket and covered herself as she looked around in panic. The room is huge. It is bigger than her apartment. Every piece of furniture screams class and royalty and even the blanket she's holding made her feel like she's an aristocrat. Theo just watched her as he knew that she's still surprised at the new environment she's in.

"Where am I? What happened? Did you raped me?!" She looked at Theo accusingly and even held the blanket tighter against her chest.

Theo quickly stood and waved his hands in disagreement but Maddie just watched him suspiciously. She squinted her eyes at him before looking at her own body. Although she's fully clothed and doesn't feel anything wrong in her body, she's still doubtful.

"I did not harm nor took advantage of you while you are unconscious, and even if you're not, I will still won't do such a thing." Maddie felt Theo's sincerity so she sighed but she still doesn't feel assured.

"You still haven't answered my other questions." She said in a low voice before looking away because Theo's stare is piercing through her soul. It is so intense that all she wants to do is hide herself using the blanket just so she won't meet his eyes.

"You're in my world, specifically in my room--"

"What?!" Maddie quickly stood and looked outside the big window.

Her jaw dropped when she saw the unfamiliar paradise. She opened the glass door beside it and went out of the balcony. The lake in front of her is so tempting to dive in but the forest surrounding it makes it look scary. There are also mountains from afar and the scene looks natural but when Maddie looks above, she's more in awe. There are two suns giving the place an ample amount of light but despite that, it doesn't feel hot because the cold breeze balances the heat.

"Why am I here? Why did you bring me here?" Maddie faced Theo who's watching him from the doorframe.

Maddie thought that Theo was just crazy but being in his world made her realize that what he said was true. She's been pinching the back of her hand and she can clearly feel the pain so she's certain that she's not dreaming. Everything is still hard to process for Maddie and she thinks that she won't be able to do that for the meantime.

"I was so scared." Theo's tone was gentle and laced with worry as he walked towards Maddie. "You lost consciousness so I panicked and brought you here to get you treated properly." He added.

Maddie looked at him in the eyes and he saw his sincerity. She can feel it too but she's so confused that she cannot think properly.

"Then bring me back. I'm fine now." Maddie's voice was marked with authority that caused Theo to get serious before he firmly shook his head. Maddie's brows met upon seeing Theo's reaction.

"No. You will stay here with me." Maddie scoffed before he walked past him and Theo just followed her with his eyes.

"So now what? I'm a prisoner here?" She said sarcastically before shaking her head in disbelief.

"No. That's not it, Madeline--"

"Stop calling me Madeline. You're not my mother." Maddie glared at Theo and he was taken aback. He sighed before nodding as he doesn't want to upset Maddie more.

"Maddie, it's not like that." He said softly before walking towards her but Maddie took some steps back so Theo stopped in trying to get closer. He sighed once again and Maddie just watched him with her brows meeting.

"I want you to be here in order for you to be safe. What happened to you the other day was not an accident." Maddie turned to Theo as what he said picked her curiosity.

"What do you mean?" She crossed her arms as the cold breeze blew.

"Felix thought that it would be funny if you got trapped in a burning kitchen." Maddie blinked and wasn't able to answer immediately as she was surprised.

"I really do not want to add to your stress but I believe you have the right to know so that you will understand why I wanted to keep you here with me." Theo explained gently but Maddie is still in the state of confusion and shock.

"Who's Felix? I'm sorry but that's all my mind is able to grasp." She stared at Theo, waiting for an answer but he just stared at her back as he contemplated telling her more.

"Why don't you get some rest, Maddie? We will talk after." Theo pointed to the doorway using his hand but Maddie didn't move and just looked at him seriously.

"Why? So I can get confused again later when I wake up? Just answer me, Theo so we can get over it." She said irritably and Theo heaved a sigh. He looked down for a moment before he focused his eyes on Maddie who's visibly not in the mood to joke around.

"Felix, he's one of the young gods who loves playing tricks to anyone. He literally adopted his assignment, being the god of mischief and misfortune. I don't know why or how he knew..." Theo trailed off as he realized something. Maddie just watched him with confusion and curiosity.

"Arthur." Theo muttered before turning his back to Maddie.

He slammed his hands at the top of the balusters which caused them to break. Maddie gasped and unconsciously took a step back. Theo started breathing heavily as his anger rose towards his older brother. He is the only one he could think of that will put Maddie's life in danger.

"I will kill both of them." Theo gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. Maddie just watched him as she tried to make things in her head clearer.

"So Felix and Arthur are trying to kill me?" She mumbled before she looked at Theo.

Theo closed his eyes and sighed in frustration before he turned to Maddie. He didn't want her to witness him acting up like some child. He just wasn't able to control his anger.

"I will be here to protect you." Theo smiled to assure Maddie but she scoffed and combed her hair using her hand. Theo froze and felt his heart pound at the sight. Maddie looked hot while doing that.

"So they are trying to kill me. Great!" She even threw her hands in the air before shaking her head in disappointment.

"Why?" Maddie looked at Theo and she caught him off guard. He tried to look away and his face heated as he felt guilty for thinking about Maddie in another way.

"Why do these gods want to kill a girl like me?" Maddie emphasized the word 'gods' sarcastically before rolling her eyes. At this point, all she can do to not lose her mind is to be sarcastic.

Theo sighed before walking towards her. This time, she stayed in her place. Maddie looked up to him and she saw how worried Theo was.

"Because, Maddie…" he trailed off before caressing her cheek. Maddie flinched a little but she didn't move away from his hold that brought a small smile to Theo's lips.

"You're the girl the great Theo is in love with."
