Chapter Two: A Chance Encounter

"Bye guys! Thanks again. I had a blast tonight. I'll see you all tomorrow at lunch."  A female voice called out behind her as she walked out the house. The voice was of a girl named Atzi. She was oddly enough walking home that snowy night after her friends tried to convince her otherwise. Atzi insisted she walk home as she wanted to enjoy the snow. As she walked along the pathway road, she heard howls and barking yaps in the woods nearby.

"Wolves on the hunt it sounds like.."  She thought to herself ; her memories of the zoology and animal training classes flooded her brain with the facts she learned about animals. The noises stopped for a while then continued on. Atzi still walked when she saw a bright light flash for a moment, followed by more yapping and branches snapping. "...a hunter maybe…? I think that was his later light."

She let her curious nature take over and she headed up the slope towards where she saw the flashing light. The silence around her scared her a bit, but she kept walking in the snow. The crunching of the fallen snow and the wind blowing wind were the only noises until..she heard faint whimpers and whines just ahead in the darkness.

She ran towards it and came across an injured husky laying in blood covered snow. Atzi knelt beside him and bound his leg in her scarf to try and stop the bleeding. Picking the husky up carefully, she gently said: "hey, let's get you fixed up buddy. I'm here...we'll get somewhere warm and safe."

The dog looked at her briefly and seemed to fall unconscious in her arms. She then carried him to her house and took him below into her basement. It was designed to be used as her vet office for the town. It had several rooms, each fitted as an exam room.

The largest room was the surgery room. Laying him on the examining table, she gathered surly supplies from her cabinets, medicines and anesthesia, gloves and other things she deemed were needed. She took her razor shears and cut the fur off his leg to prepare the wound for the surgery.

Atzi cleaned it up with antiseptic, she set the bone back in place and stitched up his damaged muscles and skin. She wiped her forehead to clear the sweat and sighed as she looked at her handiwork."Hopefully  this will help you get back on your feet. Why were you out there alone? Are you lost?"

Atzi began to worry about his owners who may have lost him. She decided to keep him around and try to find his owners. After a few hours of surgery, she finished up and carefully laid him in a clean kennel with blankets,  food and water bowls and looked at him. "Poor boy, I'll take care of you." She pets his ears gently before closing his kennel and going upstairs into her house for the night.
