Chapter 3

My mind was racing and my heart was racing. Mack coming into my room and gunfire in the house was beyond petrifying.

As I ran I heard voices and footsteps running toward me. They weren't voices I recognized, I knew everyone in my house and they weren't here to protect me. I couldn't hear the gunfire coming from the house anymore. The way Mack seemed calm like this has happened before but, once the door started getting knocked down that's when I saw horror plastered all over his face. He seemed scared of whatever was outside that door. I could see that he was terrified of what could happen to me.

Once I hit the end of the tunnel I pushed open the door and ran faster than I'd ever done in my whole life.

After a while of running, I decided to take a quick breather since I'd been running for what felt like hours.

"Split up again, find her!" A man demanded.

That voice...I've heard it somewhere.

As I'm trying to put the pieces together, that's when I remembered where I heard that voice. He was at the bar that night, he bumped into me on purpose. He was the one who I recognized in my home. I gasped when I realized it was Liam. And I know I'm about to regret it and regret going into that bar and giving him my name.

-----

We'd raced outside and I had us take two people with them and start walking in different directions trying to find this girl. After about an hour I made everyone come back to me.

"Anything?" I asked.

All of them shook their heads, "we couldn't even find footprints."

"Split up again, find her!" I demanded.

Each one of them nodded their head. We barely made it an inch before we heard a gasp. All of us looked in the direction of where the sound came from. We all approached the sound and there she sat. All dirty and sweaty.

"There you are, Melody." I smiled.

"You were at the bar that night. You bumped into me on purpose."She asked, carefully standing up, "why?" She asked.

"We just need to have a talk at my mansion." I lied. I nodded toward Ashton and Alex, who were closest to her. Once they grabbed her arms she got out of their grasp and grabbed one of their guns and aimed it at their knees and shot them. We all started moving forward towards her but stopped when they saw she was aiming at my heart.

"I'm not going with you. You can talk with me right there." Melody said nodding to where we were all standing, "and don't think I won't shoot you, because I will."

"Have you taken a life before Melody?" I asked.

"No, but there's a first time for everything." Melody quickly responded.

"Your dad says that, I've heard him say it a lot before actually."

"You know my dad?" Melody said, still holding onto the guns. "If you knew my dad you want something? Not money, I can see you have a lot." Melody said, nodding towards my outfit.

"Smart girl," I said. No one said a word for a few minutes waiting for my instructions. Honestly, though, I have no idea what to do next. She's an intelligent girl. Graduated high school early and came out with an associate's degree. She's even in great shape. She ran like six miles without stopping.

"What do your parents do Melody?" I asked.

She looked puzzled for a moment, "they own a lot of buildings. They used to be doctors but stopped when I was born. And they are business people now, so honestly, I don't know and I don't care. They're boring and all I know is that they're somewhere in Paris right now."

Well, she should care since her parents are in the mafia. And when she said that, it seemed a bit rehearsed to me. Like she was told that for her whole life.

"Are you sure that's what they do? Just own buildings and are a type of business people and don't do something else? Like something on the side?" I asked.

She lowered the guns and raised her right eyebrow, "yeah."

I then saw her drop both of the guns and went to her neck where I had one of my men shoot her with a dart that would knock her out for at least an hour or more. Her eyes closed immediately and she fell to the ground.

"Grab her and let's go," I ordered.

Once we got everyone in the car we started heading back to my house. And then we'd see what she truly knows about her family and any secrets she knows.

----

I'm grateful for my father pushing me to learn how to use a gun and do some self-defense. But my heart started beating faster and faster when he asked me if that's what they did. I know my parents, they're business people. They're boring and don't do anything fun. All they do is go on business trips and come home and work and do more stuff for work. They even have meetings at home. They even tell me to go away when they have people over.

"Yeah," I responded by lowering the guns I had. I dropped them and went to my neck and pulled out a dart. I felt myself fall to the ground and passed out.

I woke up in a bed and in some sort of room that had bars on the window. I'm in a freaking cell. I rushed out of bed and ran towards the door. I started pulling on the doorknob and of course, it was locked.

"What the hell is going on!" I shouted while banging on the door, "let me out! And I swear if this is some kinda sick joke from Thea you can tell her that this isn't funny whatsoever!"

I heard the door unlock, and I backed away from the door so I wouldn't get hit. And there he stood the man who I'd met at the bar and the one I had aimed the guns at his heart.

"You're awake!"

"Duh," I said as I rolled my eyes.

He started coming towards me and I already knew that he was going to grab my neck and slam me into the crumbling concrete wall. Once he was inches from me I ducked out of the way and took his gun from the holster and aimed it at him once more.

"I'm leaving, and I swear if you come near me I will kill you and anyone who gets in my way," I warned him.

"I will find you." He replied.

"No, you won't." I started walking out the door when he chuckled.

"What's so funny?" I asked. I stopped and looked at him. He had a smirk come across his face, "I asked you a question. What's so funny?"

"I have someone here I believe his name is Mack?"

My eyes went wide, "Where is he?"

"Not telling. So unless you want him to die I suggest you put the gun down and kick it towards me."

"How do I know you won't kill me?" I asked.

"Well right now you're worth more to me alive than dead." He replied.

"I'll do it if you promise me that you or anyone and I mean anyone will not kill Mack and won't kill him at all."

"Deal."

I put the gun on the floor and kicked it toward him. He picked it up and put it back in his holster.

"Follow me." He said.

He walked past me and I didn't move. That's when I felt his smooth hands grip my wrist and started dragging me to god knows where.

Once we neared the end of the hallway I could now hear screaming.

"What is that?" I asked. He didn't reply, "hello? Earth to Liam."

"Shut up." He mumbled.

He yanked open the door and there was Mack he was being beaten by a man standing in front of him. Mack was inches off the floor and his hands had been tied up with chains.

"MACK!" I screeched. I felt myself being dragged over to a spot near him. They had pulled an aluminum chair out and I was forced to sit there. They had started tying my hands and legs to the sides of the chair making it impossible for me to stand up.

"Let her go!" Mack shouted.

"Shut up!" Liam shouted, pounding his fist into a table near him. "Charlie, you're free to leave."

The guy named Charlie rushed out of the room and locked the door behind him.

"Now let's have some fun shall we?" Liam said with a smirk forming on his face.
