Alex, who had also emerged, added, "If you don't mind, please leave. You're dirtying our doorstep."

" leave now! Julie," I declared firmly.

"No, I won't !" Julie protested.

"What do you mean you won't ?" I asked, puzzled by her defiance.

Cassandra appeared in the doorway, her hair wrapped in a towel. "What's going on?" she asked, curious.

"I don't want to upset her," I whispered to Alex and Kenny, who both nodded in agreement.

Before Julie could say anything, Alex covered her mouth with his hand, pushed her out of the room, and followed her outside.

"Nothing's going on," Kenny assured Cassandra , redirecting her attention.

I glanced over my shoulder and followed Alex outside. He had Julie in his grasp, and she was struggling to get free. When I lifted her legs, Alex and I carried her to her car.
