Chapter Twenty-two

As the Lycan King, I had always been aware of the power of the Diviners. Their ability to predict the future and see into the unknown was something that had always fascinated me. That was why I had summoned one of the most renowned Diviners in the land to my castle. I wanted answers, and I was determined to get them.

The Diviner was a young woman with piercing blue eyes that seemed to look right through me. I had been hopeful when she arrived at the castle, thinking that perhaps she could give me some insight into the unrest that had been brewing among my people. But as we sat together in my chamber, I could feel my disappointment growing by the second.

"You say there is nothing special about you?" I asked her, my voice laced with disbelief. "That you are just an ordinary woman, carrying my heir?"

She nodded, her eyes still fixed on me.

"I see no reason for you to be scared," she continued. "I only feel a deep sense of responsibility to protect the life that grows within me."
