May’s POV

Brent squeezed my hand reassuringly. “You’re not leaving him, May. You’re just taking care of yourself for his sake. Trust me, he’ll understand if he wakes up and you’re not here, and that’s a big if.” He said.

Okay, so he wanted me to leave, but he just had to tell me he would understand if he were to wake up. Well, I didn’t think so. The big if didn’t lie in if he were to wake up, not at all, it lied in whether or not he would understand like he had said he would.

Because, I won’t understand that sort of thing, if I were to be in his place right now and I woke up to find him gone, not beside me, I didn’t think I would ever understand.

With a sigh, I said. “How about you go home instead, see how that would be good.”

He looked at me as if I had lost my head then he shook his own head and said. “Fine then, I won’t talk about it anymore.” He raised his hands in a surrendering gesture.

After that, we both sat there in silence, looking at anywhere but ourselves.
