Chapter 5- The Truth About The Alpha

Kane POV

I take a deep breath and mentally prepare myself for the oncoming conversation. I have been a rogue for years and a few years ago I met Khanna who was kind enough to help me when I had been attacked by other rogues, she helped me heal and so I decided to pay her back by protecting her.

However, I never thought that it would mean that I would have to tell her about my past. Something that I had been hoping to keep buried for the rest of my life. It is not that I did anything wrong, or anything like that. It is just that once people realise my connection to a certain individual, they then become suspicious of me or hate me outright.

I learnt very quickly to keep my mouth shut and not let anyone know about my past. But now it is all about to come to the light again, I just hope that Khanna does not see me in a different light. I think that would break me.

I open the door to the boardroom and walk in, I see Alpha Len there with two of his pack members. I know Alpha Len through Khanna, personally I do not like the man but Khanna respects him, so I do not interfere. Personally, I don’t really want her to have anything to do with him, but I know how that feels so I just keep my mouth closed.

“Khanna.” I say, smiling at her as I walk into the room.

“Kane.” She replies, walking over and embracing me in a hug. This has been our greeting for a while now, and even if she is in the middle of an important meeting, she will still greet me in this manner. And I love it.

“Kane, this is Alpha Len who you know. The other two are his Beta Lee and his Gamma Mitch.” Khanna introduces us.

“Nice to meet you gentleman, and nice to see you again Alpha Len.” I say, nodding my head to the three of them.

“Shall we get down to business? What did you find out?” Alpha Len asks me.

I stand there next to Khanna and smile sadly, knowing what is about to happen next.

“The alpha after Khanna is Alpha Mark.” I say.

“I know.” Alpha Len says.

“Then why wouldn’t you tell me?” Khanna asks angrily.

“I didn’t want you to know because I know what you are like.”

“I am not stupid enough to do anything reckless!” Khanna counters.

Just as I worry that there may be a full blown argument between the two, Khanna takes a deep breath and before Alpha Len can counter her statement she turns to me.

“How do you know Alpha Mark?” Khanna asks me.

I start to fidget.

“Kane. How do you know Alpha Mark?” Khanna asks me again.

I sigh and look at her, pain probably clear in my eyes.

“If I tell you, do you promise not to change your opinion of me?” I ask.

“Tell her everything you know, rogue!” Growls out Beta Lee.

I cower slightly at the power in his voice, but Khanna gets angry.

“You shut up!” Khanna says pointing at Beta Lee who growls at her before she looks at him with anger flaring in her eyes. Even Gamma Mitch and Alpha Len take a step back.

“And you!” Khanna says, pointing to me. “You are a dear friend of mine, why would I change my opinion of you? I am hurt you would even think that.” Khanna says, sadness entering her voice and eyes.

“He was my alpha before I went rogue.” I say.

The silence that follows is so deafening you could have heard a pin drop.

“WHAT?!” Alpha Len shouts before marching over and punching me in the face.

I raise my hand to my face in surprise. The punch was not hard enough to knock me back so Alpha Len must have been holding back but it still hurts like hell. I can already feel a bruise forming and I am about to say something in retaliation but then the sound of a smack resonates around the room. I look around and see a few of Alpha Lens’ guards growling at Khanna. It is then that I realise that she has slapped Alpha Len.

“Don’t you dare raise a hand to him. He may have belonged to Alpha Marks’ pack once before, but he is now a rogue and free. His past has nothing to do with this or with you.” Khanna says through narrow eyes.

“Please Khanna, calm down. It is ok. I understand Alpha Lens’ reaction, if I was in his shoes then I would have done the same thing.” I say, stepping around Alpha Len and pulling Khanna in for a hug to calm her down.

“I don’t care, his reaction was not right.” Khanna replies, her voice slightly muffled by my chest.

“I stand by what I did Khanna, anyone who comes from Alpha Marks pack is bad news.” Alpha Len says, sending me daggers.

“He has not belonged to the pack for years.” Khanna counters, stepping back out of the hug.

“I left because he murdered my parents, and I was next. I managed to get out the night before he was going to kill me, my parents always told me that if anything happened to them then I was to run. And I did.” I say.

“Why did he kill your parents?” Khanna asks.

“Because they went against him, they fought for the rights of pack members and tried to go to the wolf king to show him what was going on. Alpha Mark discovered this and had them killed in front of the whole pack as a warning. I was there, some of the warriors made me watch but when they were supposed to take me to the Alphas office to also be sentenced to death I ran. I managed to get away when they were distracted by a brawl in the pack training field.” I explain. The memories of that day still haunt me, even now.

“I ran home and grabbed a bag, mainly putting my ID documents in it before running to the boarder. As soon as I crossed the boarder I renounced my loyalty to the pack and I ran. I have been running ever since. They found me a few years ago.” I say, looking at Khanna.

“That was who did that to you?” She asks.

I nod, I never told her until today who attacked me. I just blagged saying it was other rogues.

“I am surprised you are still alive.” Gamma Mitch mutters,

“Only barely. When they left me I was on death doors, but Khanna found me and saved me.” I reply, smiling warmly at Khanna.

“You must be a guardian angel for wolves.” Beta Lee says mockingly.

“Mind your tongue.” Alpha Len says, smacking Beta Lee on the back of the head.

“Sorry alpha, I didn’t mean it to sound how it came out. I just meant that she has saved you and then Kane from death, like a guardian angel.” Beta Lee explains, rubbing the back of his head.

“Huh, I never really thought of it like that.” I say.

“But what does Alpha Mark have to do with me?” Khanna asks.

“Bad news basically. It means that either there is something he wants from you or you have done something to angered him. Personally? I think it is the former.” I say.

“But why me? Wouldn’t it make more sense to go after another wolf?” Khanna asks confused, there is no malice in the question just confusion.

“It could be your money, your resources or you yourself. You are a catch and he may think you don’t know anything about our world so he would be able to scare you and thereby control you.” Alpha Len explains. “That is why it is imperative for you to come a reside in my pack, even if it is just temporarily.”

I nod my head, for once I agree with Alpha Len. While I may not like him or his weird obsession with protecting Khanna, personally I think it is creepy, I can see that he is the better option at this point for protecting her. And her protection is the main thing.

“I think you should take up his offer.” I say, surprising Khanna.
