Chapter 51 The night started when he came to get her, and he looked at her head to toe and then grinned in a way that made her heart soar. He put out his arm and then led her to their SUV, and then he started driving.“Where are we going?” she asked as she looked at him. He was also dressed differently.“Sophia, I wanted to go somewhere where we could talk. Really talk first, and then I have a few things to show you.” He said, and she could feel her heart begin to drop. She knew what this talk was. She was trying to brace herself for the worst, but then he stopped, and they were by a field. The field had dots on the horizon that were familiar to her. They were nothing but cows that had been put out to graze for the fall. She smiled at the sight.“So you wanted to talk?” she asked as she tried to harden her voice a bit so he wouldn’t realize that he was breaking her heart b

Chapter 52 “Sadly, yes.” He said as he looked at her. “Baby, I know that telling you that means you are gonna want to bring all of them home with us, but I know you won’t. We could take them all, but your aversion to birds is a thing. I think they said they had mostly birds as well. We will see what you want, though, and then we will find the place to put them.” “Micha, we can’t just take on a working farm by ourselves and the help that we have. I understand what you are saying and doing, but I want you to know I can have some restraint.” Sophia said.“Then get in the car and show me some of this restraint.” He chuckled as he looked at her. “Because as soon as you see the late breeders, I doubt you will have any.”“Late breeders?” she asked.“Well, one of the things that made them decide to pack it up was an inci

Chapter 53 The two women walked through the first barn. Sophia saw that all the animals were in good condition. She was afraid they would be in less than taken care of when she heard they were going to auction. “To be honest, I just don’t have the time to deal with getting groups ready for sale. He helps, but honestly, his mind isn’t what it is used to be.” The older woman said. “When the vet first thought we would have some out-of-season babies, I laughed because he didn’t tell me anything. However, one of the stable hands then let me in on his ability to forget what he was doing, and then he could leave a gate open or something like that. After the first time, which is the result you will be looking at soon enough, the hands here all keep a close eye on him for me while I am handling something else.”“I am sorry,” Sophia said.“it is time for us to retire.&rdq

Chapter 54“Evidence?” she asked.“Sophia, just hold on.” He said as he floored it onto the main road, and then he took off to the police department. The area was relatively small compared to him living in the middle of no where so the roundabout route he was taking led them to the department, and then he got her out, and they walked in and looked around.“Can I help you?” A voice in the back of them asked as the person looked around them.“I hope so,” Micha said as he looked at the person. “However, I am not sure that it is a crime. I do want to make sure that it is reported and documented.”“And that is what, sir?” the man asked as he looked intrigued by the way Micha said things.“So my wife and I were interested in buying some of the animals at the Hatchets farm,” Micha said. “I already bought their cattle, and then I kne

Chapter 55“Come with us, please.” The captain said as he motioned for the couple to follow him. “Understand before we go into the room this is a very small department. We have a traveling detective that covers the entire county.”“Okay,” Micha replied as he looked at the men there. He had his hand at Sophia’s back and kept it there. He knew how small areas worked. They only had the sheriff's office that was twenty or so miles away from the ranch. Though this area was more populated than his, it was easy to see they would be shorthanded. Most farmers that were in the area had been there for generations. These people all grew up on the land as well. Sophia looked around the hallways, and then they walked into a small room. There were news articles on the walls taped up. She saw the date on some of them. They were a few decades old. She was confused. She looked at the men standing

Chapter 56   “Okay, so what are you really telling us?” The Captain asked. “You said the people made you feel uncomfortable. That is that, okay, but that doesn’t give us any real criminal activity.” “Like I said in the beginning. Something isn’t right there, and I knew that it is not enough, but I had to do something to let you know that something isn’t right there.” Micha said. “I still don’t know how people go missing on that farm.” The quiet man asked who had been looking between the two people and the board that was on the side of the room. “Farms have so many ways for people to die or go missing. You know I never really thought of it before.” Sophia said. She looked at the men. “I mean, the tools we have for the animal care is one thing. We have everything normally on site. We have some things as well, like poison for the rodents and bugs. We have so many things that could hold and treat animals as well. Holding pens,

Chapter 57 “I know I ain’t my pa,” he said. “That man would have seen this miles away.”“And how would he have?” Sophia asked with a laugh. “Micha, you didn’t do anything wrong. You were trying to do something good.”“And I messed it up.” He said with a sigh. “Cowgirl, look, I don’t want to continue this way of you holding me at bay. I ain’t one of the bulls on the farm. I want to be your husband.”“I know that,” Sophia said. “I really want to trust everything you said, Micha. I want this to work out. Call it all the extra hormones raging in me. Call it whatever. Ki doesn’t know anymore. I just get a little jealous knowing that you are around women that could be supermodels, and here I am looking like a heifer getting ready to pop.”“You are not a heifer by any stretch of the i

Chapter 58       Sophia sat down at the table as he began to serve her all the favorites that she had said she liked before on the many times they had gone to this one restaurant. He was good with details like that. The man in front of her knew that he could handle just about anything when it came to a boardroom or running a huge company, but a life with his wife was never going to be really easy for him. That is why he knew that he needed a strong woman to be there. Sophia was that. She was the one he needed, and he knew that he had to have the type of woman he was used to when he was growing up. He would never be able to deal with a wish-washy type of woman who always let him chose or have what he wanted. He needed someone he knew he could leave in charge and that would be able to handle everything that needed to be. Sophia was that to him. He could trust her in everything.

Chapter 59   “I am not changing anything because of you in the way you think I am,” Micha said. “Honestly, when the idea came to me, you were just a part of it. I love you, Sophia, and I will do what I have to to make sure that you know that, but this will be better for me, the company, and us.” “I know you mean well, but I can’t help but think this means a lot more work for both of us,” Sophia said with a laugh. “However, as your wife, I will support you, and if you think that you can do more this way, I have to believe that you can.” “That’s my good girl.” He said as he patted his lap and wanted her there on it. Though they were changing so many things in their lives, one thing was always there. When they were touching, they sparked to life. He knew this, and he needed his wife to right there with him. He ran his fingers through her hair. As he pulled her close to him and kissed her. He could feel the sparks soon, and he knew she

Chapter 60     The air was getting thick as the steam started filling the room. It was almost enough that he could no longer see her, but that was fine. He knew where she was. He always did. He moved to stand behind her as his hands went to her shoulders and then began kneading them deeper into the muscles. He went slowly and thoroughly down her back. He felt the tension and knew this was caused by him. Though it wasn’t the farm that brought her to be so tight in the muscles. It had been him working. He continued down her body, resting his head on her shoulder and kissing it as he did, then his arms went around her. “You what the best feeling in the world is cowgirl?” he asked as his voice dropped lower and to the point, it almost sounded different like another person altogether, “What is it?” she asked as she turned her head to look at him, and he nipped at her mouth. “Being next to you when you
