NIXON Every word Alice delivered to us sent little jolts of pain through me knowing how right she is, but how can I choose between what they want? I can’t.  “Hey,” I flashed, pressing my forehead to hers, “we can’t have an eruption within twenty-four hours, little volcano.” No one wanted an actual Alice eruption, last time she almost killed someone and it took mom deep-diving while my dad's all held her down to knock her out of it.  Her eyes darted up to mine, searching the depths within them for a way out of her pain. I could give this to her, her eyes on mine, a way to connect with us on this level without the fear of Linden deep diving, although I know she learned how to block that a few years ago.  “I can’t,” she half-choked on her words, reaching for Lin

NIXON "Goddess, are you dying or something?" Linden snarked as he rolled his eyes and sat on the grass. "Or something," Terran looked between us, "look, abilities are hard to manage when you're emotional. Sometimes they don't work, other times they do too much damage, or cloud your judgment. Nixon has died and rebirthed, if he dies you both know he's coming back to you," he hesitated, "but what happens when it's Alice, Linden, another sibling or someone you care about?"  "What the hell Terran?" Alice half shrieked at him, checking to make sure I had Onyx locked up. "Maybe WE should have this conversation," she pointed between her, Linden, and Terran, "and we can have it with Nixon later," she was whispering but it came out more like a hiss.  "No," he stood his gro

ALICE Marcy made sure that my belly was full before I set off after lunch. While it always felt foreign and a little painful to leave, it hurt a little less this time as the anticipation of what awaited for me in Berkton bubbled up inside of me. I tried to suppress the feelings of being away from my mates while I was here, but the urge to close the distance between us was always there, and now that the decision had been made to go back, it was growing painful to stay away. The feeling was so familiar, the pain of being away from the pack and my siblings so similar, and yet starkly different. "I'm in town next weekend to meet with a new client," Nixon leant over the door as I lowered into my vehicle, "I'll swing by."

ALICEThere in the tree line is what I’m assuming is another Vamp. He’s lurking in the shadows and not daring to come after me which is fine by me and only has me pressing on the gas faster. I’m not on kill duty today, and my plates will lead them to a mailbox two towns away from me, so if he’s set on tracking me down - good luck. He looked familiar, too familiar even though my brain couldn't place from where. Ugh, maybe I should have stayed and finished him off, it’s not like me to leave loose strings, but Ian has my head all kinds of messed up. Ian. What is a girl to do when her triplets are determined to rid the world of a species you’re mated to? I can’t bring myself to react to Vamps the way I’ve trained to m

ALICE  When I opened the door to the apartment, Viv's eyes immediately found mine, and her face relaxed instantly, easing the panic that was all over her face as I heard Ted's voice.  "Yes, Mr… no, absolutely there's nothing I'll do first you have my word… I understand but she's not in danger, she's visiting family, of course…. Fuck," I could hear his phone hit the table with an exhausted thump. "What's going on?"  "Oh thank fuck," Ted practically jumped on me, grabbing my face between his hands and checking me over, "I'm gonna call your non-official boyfriend and let him know you're not dead in a ditch. He's been calling and showing up here non-stop."  "I was visiting my brother," I scrunched my face up in

ALICE With my eyes shut tightly, I placed my cheek next to Rian's and slid the ring off of my finger.  Rian’s chest stopped completely and his whole body tensed around me. His fingers were digging into my hips before he took a deep breath like someone trapped underwater that just came up for air.  Something inside of him rumbled in a way I didn’t recognize, rattling through my chest and making Amara let out a low rumble of her own that resembled a purring sound. His body pressed closer to me as his hips ground into me gently.  “It’s not simple to be my mate,” he growled out. “You have no idea,” my nose slid along his and the need to look into his eyes increased painfully.

ALICE I keep replaying last night’s events in my head over and over. I text Cynthia, Viv, and Ted to let them know that everything was fine after Rian left and that I was going straight to bed, so it didn’t surprise me to wake up to loud banging coming from the kitchen - Cynthia’s not so subtle way of waking me up before she had to leave for the day.  "Morning mom," I slid up to the table, relaxing back into the chair as I slipped a danish off the plate, "when did you have time to go get these?"  "You know," she tapped her foot against the floor with her hands on her hips, "I really do feel like your mother. A mother with a delinquent child who comes in late at night and sneaks off to bed, except you went to bed at supper time to avoid all of us."  "Give her

ALICE When I arrived at Ambrosia, there was an extra bouncer that I didn’t recognize but seemed to spot me immediately, ushering me in without a word. I found my way to the bar, grabbing a drink before looking out into the familiar scene. I can’t remember the last time I went to Envy, its high chaotic energy used to feel like home and now the dark cages and constant pulse of the atmosphere here already felt like I belonged.  Something was definitely different though about tonight's energy, an extra layer of adrenaline was like a buzz in the air as I slipped through the crowd and made my way up the winding stairs to the second floor. I watched below as bodies ground against each other, and the dancers fell into their own world. They looked free, the way their bodies moved so fluidly with no reservations about where

ALICE “Good for her, can I go now?” I pushed off of him.  “Good for him...” Ian smirked and looked like he was pondering something as he tipped his head slightly and looked towards the sky, “...maybe? But I’ve known him for a very long time.” My eyes bounced over his, surveying his expressions and body language as I tried to calm down.  This bond is making me a brat. Even if he didn't have a male source, so what? It's not like we were together.  I keep telling him I'm not his. I keep pushing him away.  “What about the guy in the alley then," I squeezed my eyes closed, shaking my head slightly, "was that him?”

ALICE “Something is on your mind today,” I searched Rian’s face for a reaction but was met with none. He looked at me briefly before turning his eyes back to the road. His brows had a slight crease in them that’s been there all day and I desperately wanted to make it go away.  I thought I'd be met with a display of affection today, but he kept his distance. I tried to control the panicked undertone my body carried around all day, but it was impossible not to wonder if he knew where and who I was with last night.  He never answered me the entire drive home, although what I said was more of a statement I guess. I debated asking him directly, but as he parked in front of my apartment the smokiness of his scent filled the vehicle and he inhaled deeply.  "It's ver
