Chapter 30
It was time for the exchange. Lucas had given me a list of the warriors he had brought. I looked at the list he had given me; it contained their names and their strengths. I decided to take a roll call, my eyes scanning through them and accessing them as they answered. I was impressed; he had chosen the best. They were all huge and well-toned, but physical appearance can be deceiving, so I didn't take it to heart. I will put them in a fighting ring later on to gauge their strength. Only after that can I put them in their respective places. I had my beta hand him the list I had also compiled, which contains their names and their specialties, and he took the roll call. He seems satisfied with it, because he kept on nodding. Finally, the exchange was made, and it was time to head home. We had arranged a place for them to stay away from the pack but close to the training center, so as not to risk them divulging the pack's secret to their alpha. Jake loaded them into the cars we had br

Chapter 31
It was safe to assume that Lucas pretty much spoiled my mood for the rest of the day. I was sulky by the time I got to the park house, and everyone took one look at me and went the other way. Immediately I got home, I went straight to my office and summoned my beta for an emergency meeting. A war was looming, and we had to start getting prepared. I sat down, twirling on the chair as I waited for him. My mind kept going back to the kiss—that was the best kiss I have had in years. But the jerk had to go and ruin it with his loud mouth. I closed my eyes as I tried to imagine it, wondering what would have happened if his wolf had actually mated me there. A delicious tingle went down my body, and I shivered. No matter how much I would love that, this wasn't the time and place for that. And as if on cue, Jake walked inside, completely distracting me from my thoughts. "Jasmine? You called?" He asked, running his hand through his hair. He seemed to be distressed, and no doubt it was becau

Chapter 32
"You need to attack the vital point. But don’t be too obvious. They shouldn’t be able to read your moves. Let your eyes give out nothing. You have to confuse the enemy." I barked out to the group of warriors training in the practice arena. Ever since the talk with Lucas, where he basically threatened to take over my pack, everyone has been on deck to fight. All adults were required to fight; no one would be spared. We were currently outside in the arena with various groups training, and I, Jake, and Malcolm were in charge of training each group.I am currently training my group in sword fighting, and they have been catching up. "Next up. Williams and Lillian." I called out, and the two warriors came out as they heard their names and bowed to each other. People may be surprised that I am putting men and women together to fight against each other. But we werewolves don’t discriminate against gender.Because on the battlefield, your enemies don’t care if you are male or female. They wou

Chapter 33
It was a day before doomsday, because that is what I have decided to call it, and everyone was on high alert. For the past week, we have been training and training. I barely have any rest nowadays because I am constantly worried about what will happen when Lucas comes. I had warriors stationed at every entrance to the pack, as I didn’t want to be caught unawares. My link was open throughout so that they could alert me of any suspicious individuals or behaviours. I could barely sleep that night. I was with my beta and the head warrior in my office, going through the plan over and over again and looking for any loopholes. After going through everything and seemingly being satisfied, they both retired back to bed, but I stayed behind to put the finishing touches on everything. It was in times like this that I missed my dad. The events of the day finally got to me, and I managed to fall asleep on my desk after a while, the pen still in my hand. I woke up to find that drool had covered

Chapter 34
They retired for the night that day, and another took their place, but there was still no sign of Lucas and his men. It continued on throughout the rest of the week, which made me think he finally had a change of heart. But I doubt that; Lucas was Lucas; he never backed down from a challenge. The next week, it was pretty obvious that Lucas wasn’t going to come again. I mean, we haven’t heard anything from him, and that was strange. I eased the security around the pack a bit so that people could go about their normal activities. We weren’t going to disrupt our normal schedule because of one man, who also happens to be my mate and one of the most feared alphas on the continent. But some guards were stationed across our borders so that they could report any sightings of the crimson shadow pack. But that went on for another week, and nothing happened. It has now been a month since Lucas made such a threat to me and my pack, and I needed no soothsayer to tell me that he wasn’t going to s

Chapter 35
Gasps could be heard from all around us as his canines dug into my neck. I could hear the whispers from the pack, increasing as he sealed our fate and the people wondered what was going on. His canines left my neck, and he rolled over until I was under him, trying to cover me as much as he could. Lucas looked at me, the shock evident in his face. I looked back at him; my face mirrored his expression. My neck was throbbing, as blood was flowing out of the wound that he had failed to close. His nose flared, and his eyes were on me, watching and observing me. I stared at him head-on, and he wiped his head quickly and looked at the area. "Ouch," I whined as the neck throbbed. He stiffened as if in pain and leaned forward. "Wait!" I held my hands out, trying to distance myself from him. "What are you trying to do?" "I am trying to clean the wound before it gets infected." At the mention of infection, I straightened up and bared my neck to him. That was the last thing I wanted at such a

Chapter 36
I stood there for a while, stunned at the audacity of the man who was my mate. Yes, he was everything I detested, but why was my heart pounding against my rib cage so much for him? I watched him go, walking like every bit the Alpha that he was.Exhaling a ragged breath, I looked onto the horizon and touched my mark. These next few weeks will be hectic. But why did he even mark me? I know he said it was his wolf, but that doesn’t justify anything. You are an alpha, for goddess' sake; you should be in better control of your wolf next time.I closed my eyes, sighing at the thought of all that had happened. I suddenly felt weary as I began to think of all that had happened. Although today wasn’t as I pictured it, I was just happy we were able to avert a war. Now I just want to soak in a bath and sleep.I turned back, strolling casually into the pack house, and I was suddenly thankful that neither my family nor my best friend were around today when everything happened, because it would hav

"Grrr…. Grrr…" I heard the shrill ring of the pack’s telephone ringing. "Dammit." I cursed; why was it coming in at this time? I just wanted to get dressed and get some rest. I allowed the phone to ring; maybe the caller will give up. If it is actually important, they will call back again. I was about to squirt a dollop of cream on my palm when the call came through again, and I groaned loudly. Has the ringtone always been this annoying? I wondered. I took my time getting closer to the phone, then I picked it up. "Enjoying yourself without me, eh?" The voice that had been the cause of everything was heard from the speakers, and I almost dropped my phone. "What the hell, Lucas?" I barked at the phone’s receiver. "Why are you calling me at this time? Don’t tell me you miss me so much. You just left, not up to two hours now?" My lips curled into a grin. I am sure he is eating his words now. He was the first to call me. "You wish, honey. I was about to go get some rest when I felt you

I arrived at the hospital later on, with a carry-on that was filled with all her baby stuff. In their rush, they had forgotten to carry it, and I was the one who had to get everything. I had also asked one of the omegas to make soup for her, as I heard it helps nursing mothers. I walked inside the hospital, responding to the various greetings along the way. I didn’t even need to start looking for her when I heard an angry female voice hurl out curses. I cringed as I heard the different curse words, which I had never heard in my life. I didn’t want to be in Jake’s shoes now. But I have always wondered why the moon goddess didn’t make childbearing easier for us. The pain was almost blinding, but thanks to modern medicine, they have found no relief from the pain with medicine, although the effects may wear off before she delivers. I shook my head, not wanting to imagine it. It was one of the reasons I didn’t want to have children. I had once entertained the thoughts when I was still wi

Chapter 39
I worked like a horse, not even considering the time. It wasn’t till I was beat that I remembered to drag myself back to the suites. I was feeling unnecessarily hot; the heat must have been too much, so I decided to take another bath. And no, I didn’t go for my usual skin-boiling bath. I tried to make it as cold as possible, although the water doesn’t run that cold. I soaked into it, submerging myself in the water, hoping it would drive the crazy heat away. I managed to pull myself out of the water after much difficulty because I didn’t want to leave the bath. I dragged myself to the bed and dumped my naked ass on it, wet body and all. I didn’t know why, but I couldn’t bring myself to do anything. My head was fuzzy, and I was having problems comprehending things. I wanted to blame it on the fact that today has been pretty crazy and hectic, but deep down, I knew that wasn’t the cause. I was going to deal with that when I woke up, but for now, I just wanted to sleep. I slept like that
