Mary shuddered even more, her heart beat even faster as she felt him hold unto her arm and prevented her from bending down. He pulled her up so that she could look into his face. Mary tried to keep her eyes down so that she would not have to look into his face. "You don't have to bother yourself okay?" He said softly, but Mary felt he was being sarcastic. "I would just simply ask another maid to clean it up" he still held unto her hand. Mary was surprised for a while. "You don't look okay" he said again. He took her hand and led her away from the chaos in the kitchen. "Are you not happy to see me?" He asked with a smile on his face, a smile that looked more like a smirk. "Or did anyone annoy you before my arrival?" He asked again. Mary did not know what to make out of the whole situation, but she told herself that she was probably over acting and she should try to act normal. She tried to paint a smile on her face, but she failed woefully. What was supposed to come out as a sm

Mary blinked repeatedly hoping to get rid of the fear in her eyes, she did not want him seeing the fear in her eyes and knowing how scared she was of him. He too blinked from reflex, and looked away. Then he turned to look at her and continued his story again. "This particular day, I was trying to sneak into my house with the fruits, just like the way you were about to run now" he said looking directly into her eyes. Mary was frozen for a moment, her heart skipped several beats as she heard him say that. His rapt attention focused directly on her face, like he was trying to read her facial expression. "Well..... This my neighbor caught me sneaking, and then I stood frozen in front of him, expecting to get scolded for the fruits. Can you guess what he said to me then?" Mary shook her head, wondering why he was asking her, why was he sharing the story with her anyways. "Well —" he squeezed her hand even more tightly. "He said why are you running when no one is after you". S

She looked at the time, it was almost midnight. "I had better go to bed lest I suffer a fatigue tomorrow" she said before she stood up. She looked at the box of pizza on the ground, ignoring it and not giving it a second thought she walked away with a sneer on her face. Mary was immediately alarmed, she did not know why. She stood up and started walking towards the house. Just as she was approaching the house, Adonis came out of the house holding a brief case in his hand. He looked towards her direction and let out what she felt as a weak smile. He was immediately led into the car by the men and they drove off immediately. Mary understood they were probably government officials, but what she did not understand was where they were taking Adonis to. Although it did not look like he was getting arrested again. Mary went back to seat in the garden, she did not have anything to do in the house and she did not want to go to her newspaper office, because Adonis could be back at anytime and she did not want him getting suspicious. By the time Mary got home, it was already evening and the sun had started to set. She had expected Adonis to be back by now, but she was surprised to see that he was not yet back. She decided to use that opportunity to search his study, she still could not believe that the reason she had come to his house, and the same reason she had always ran around trying to search his study all the time was finally over. Mary laughed at all the things she had done in the past out of desperation to find out something tangible she could present to her boss. There were some stacks of papers on the table, Mary sat on his chair and started picking them up one after the other to read. They were just some official documents that Mary did not understand anyways. She left his office and started walking towards her next target, which was his secret room he had claimed in the past was out of bound. Mary opened the door, expecting some difficulties as usual but to her biggest surprise the door gave wa

Mary had her heart hung in her mouth, she swallowed hard having no idea how to handle the situation at hand. She was about challenging him and finally get to tell him to his face that he was a pathetic and and psychotic killer that would not mind harming his own grandmother just to cover up his mess. She was about about open up her mouth to cuss him when he pulled out a gun from his pocket and pointed it at them. Mary quickly pushed Emma behind her, but it seemed like she pushed too hard because the old woman ended up falling to the ground. Mary's mouth snapped shut as she looked at Adonis, all the curses she had originally planned to rain on him hung in her throat. "What are you trying to do?" He asked, his voice sounding more mean than it had sounded earlier. His eyes had gone blood shut, Mary feared that he had gone mad and would kill the both of them without thinking twice. Mary and Emma were now sitting on the couch in the sitting room, while Adonis stood there with his hand in his pocket. Mary wondered what Emma meant by saying her grandson was not a murderer. But Adonis had openly admitted in the court that he had killed his parents. Adonis stood there and watched every reaction that appeared on Mary's face as they spoke. "Then why is everyone saying he killed his parents? Why was he arrested?" Mary was even more confused as ever. "You should see him as a hero instead of a murderer" Emma said. Mary looked up at Adonis only to meet his eyes. Mary kept rubbing Emma's arm as she spoke. "Tell me about Adonis parents then" Mary said. "Is the lovely woman in that picture hanging inside that room Adonis's mom?" Mary asked. Emma nodded. "My Lauren, my poor child. She suffered so much until death". Emma said with a sad look on face. "Is she your daughter?" Mary asked, she could not help but ask too many questions. "Yes" Emma said nodding. "S

Emma continued her explanation. "I finally thought that when I presented Adonis to Oscar, I thought that at least he would be happy that he finally had a child with Lauren and stop treating her bad. At first, he became lenient with us and started acting a bit maturely towards us. He would but gifts for Lauren and Adonis. But that did not last long, after quitewa while he resumed his maltreatment on us again. I watched Adonis grow up in the midst of all of these chaos, but I could not do anything about it, I had no power to change anything. I could not even take him away from there because we had no other place to go to. I did not want to return to the streets with my child and grandchild, that would not be good for them. So we stayed. Emma cleared her throat and continued her story. "Seeing what had happened and that someone had found out, I felt that we were no longer safe there, if the police found us out they could take me to jail, and then my Adonis would be left all alone on his own with mo body to take care of him. I did not want that for my grandson, so I took him with me and we fled the town. Once again I had to leave, but this time around with my grandson and not my daughter. We were not able to take anything wutg us, the only thing I was able to take out of that house was a picture of my Lauren, the same picture you have seen hanging there. Because the place had been a ghetto, there was no further investigation on the deaths, the police ruled it out as a clash between rival gangs. Mary still wanted to know why Adonis had tried to harm his grandmother. She asked the question aloud, directing it to Adonis. But Adonis stayed quiet, still staring at her.
