Chapter 41: Best Friend
“Are you sure you don’t need anything else? Water? Coffee? Another one of my amazing tea mixes?” Zane asked as he positioned himself against my doorframe. I give him a smile before shaking my head. “I’m alright. Besides, I think I should be the one asking you that. I think you’ve forgotten that you’re the guest here, not me.” We both chuckle, but right after the air stiffens, an uncomfortable silence hangs in between us. It’s been approximately twelve hours and twenty five minutes since we received information from one of Titus’ Pack members. Ever since he told us that they arrived at the place they know Elisha was hiding at, there has been no other communication with them. I was dying from curiosity and nervousness. Zane has been by my side the whole time. I guess River too, but he kept his distance. As he should. He hasn’t done anything but stress me out and make things even more difficult since he arrived. And yet, a part of me still sometimes wonders if he’s alright outsi

Chapter 42: Secret Rave
Titus Bane Exhaustion was one of the many things I and my Pack members were feeling right now, but none of us were stopping. I made sure of that.  As soon as we landed, I had our best sniffers go around the place and confirmed that we were in the right area. It was fortunate on our end that Elisha still left some of her things back at her place so it was easier to track as well as Neo’s scent.  The only problem was that we knew they were there, but the specific location was much harder to pinpoint.  We walked, we ran, we scouted, and many people looked at us confused and weirdly, wondering why a group of men that were definitely not from around here kept going around the place.

Chapter 43: Burning Man
Titus Bane Being underground was nothing new to me or my Pack. It might even not be on most of their top five of unlikeliest places to end up in for battle.  Well, it mostly depends on who you would ask. Cyrus would say a smelly and musky underground would be a part of his top five since he usually stayed back in the Pack quarters to organize, not directly fight.  Egan, on the other hand, who often saw even more disgusting and suspicious places since he was always in battle, would consider this not even half of the things he had to experience.  However, no matter what they consider this place as, I made sure that they knew that this was one of their most important battles because the thing is, it wasn’t just about fi

Chapter 44: Neo's Father
I lower myself down onto the grass until I have my knees bent and I’m close enough to dig on the soil with my trowel.  I start creating a hole that’s not too small, but also big enough to fit a couple of the seeds on my palm. They’re legume seeds. Neo likes these broad beans and they grow exceptionally well during the Fall season.  Isn’t it odd that a little boy would have beans as one of their favorite foods? Chad often wondered that, and I never really had the answer. One day, he just kept eating them and Elisha gifted me the seeds to plant in her backyard.  It was because of her that I was able to start this garden that was a perfect size for a beginner like me – twelve by twenty four feet, more than enough for all of the veget

Chapter 45: Inner Fire
Titus Bane Past Fire. A state, process, or instance of combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited and combined with oxygen, giving off light, heat, and flame.  In mine and my kind’s case though, it was our weakness. At least, in most cases.  But in our Pack, we were different. Born and raised to be special, to be stronger than our so-called weakness.  We were brought up to be resistant to fire and heat.  “Father, I- I don’t think I can do it.” I glanced over to my father, the Alpha of the Blazing Wolves, who was walking beside me further into the middle of the woods where wolves went for

Chapter 46: Phone Call
If anyone told me five years ago that River would suddenly come back to my life and I would let him, I would have laughed at their faces and forgotten they even said it in the first place.   Right now though, I think the only one laughing was me, at myself.    And with River. Goddess, how was I laughing with him and not at him?    Oh, right. It’s because he attempted to build a race car bed for Neo and he totally messed up the instructions so now it looks more like a Transformers car as a robot, not the car part.    “I could have sworn I followed the instructions step by step!” He said in frustration as he stared at

Chapter 47: Difficult Decisions
“Hello? Who is this? Are you with River?” She spoke again and now the voice sounded familiar to me, for obvious reasons.  Shit. Damn it. What should I do now? I can’t just hang up out of nowhere since she’s already heard me! I cleared my throat. “Uh, h-hey, Syvne. This is, uh, Keira. Not sure if you remember me bu–” “Keira?” Her voice got higher. “Oh of course I remember you, sweetie. Oh my goodness, I haven't heard from you in years.”  If I didn’t know any better, I would think she was actually happy to hear me, but I was there that day and I knew from the way she looked at me that she didn’t want anything to do with me.

Chapter 48: She's Gone
River Colden As soon as Keira ran out of the room after shoving my phone into my hand, I knew something had happened. I can’t believe I fell asleep. Damn it.  “Mamma, what did you talk to Keira about that made her speed out of here?”  “Huh? What do you mean, son? She seemed fine on the phone.” My mother replied rather oblivious to the whole situation.  Before I left for Arizona to get back to Keira, I left her a message telling her about how I let Skye take care of things around the Pack for the meantime. I explained to her from the very beginning as well – the abuse and the lies.  She must have just heard the message now a

Chapter 49: Her Blood
River Colden I crouched down and took one long smell and knew instantly what it was.  I didn't want to believe it, but my sense of smell wouldn't lie to me. I let out a shuddery breath as I turned to Zane. “It’s blood. Her blood.”  What the fuck happened to you, Keira? Zane and I admittedly didn’t know what to do. He was an ace hunter, no doubt about it, but this was different. Besides the blood she had left, there was no other trail. It was as if somehow, whoever took her, they knew what they were doing.  They had masked her scent with something else. It was a compound or a mixture that was s

Chapter 50: Cold Revenge
Titus Bane My ears were ringing and it felt like the start of a massive headache. Keira? Gone? Taken? And by someone from my own Pack as well? This doesn’t make sense. None of it does. It can’t be. It just can’t.  I turned to Ash, grabbing him by his collar and almost shoving him against the wall.  “Alpha!” He cried out surprised.  “What the fuck happened?” I was gone for a few days and was looking forward to seeing Keira the moment we arrived and now this? How could that even h
