THE PLAN WORKED
JOVITA This went wrong. My heart kept pounding in my chest. This was not what I expected. I do not even know what I expected him to do, but it definitely was not taking me in his arms and to his bed. I heard everything they talked about and how he spoke to his brother because of me. It took so much to put my acts together. The men were exuding fury, and his brother asked him not to become a hypocrite. What does that even mean? When he carried me from Bryce, I felt goosebumps blanketing my skin and prayed that he does not notice. I tried to will my heartbeat to something approximately normal and not try to think of his arms around me or his scent that invaded my senses. When they argued, I stayed still, hoping none of them noticed my unsteady heartbeat. I was a bit relieved when his brother left the room for good. He could easily detect that I was awake. I was terrified that he would find out. Lord Ralph laid me on the bed, paced his room, and ran his hand over hi

LOVE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
JOVITA "Okay, you have to tell me what you did," Ana said once she was in the room. I was back in my room. The doctor said I needed rest. He must have taken my racing heart for something else. Lord Ralph made sure I got enough rest today. He asked a vampire to take me back to my room and ensure I was in bed all day. I had been in me and Ana's small room since morning, and now it was evening, and Ana was here after the day's tasks. "She needs to rest today because her work starts soon. She needs all the rest she can get," he had said while wearing his jacket. I shrugged. "Nothing. I said I won't eat when everyone else was starving." "Was that all?" Ana asked, bewildered. She came and sat beside me. "Wait. Was that a stunt you pulled on him?" I hiked my shoulders again. "It was my fault that everyone was starving. I thought I could do something to make everyone eat." "Everyone is talking about how he carried you in his arms. I bet the female vam

WORRIED
JOVITA I stood there looking at him, unable to speak or tear my eyes away from him. His eyes were not as deep blue as they used to be, there was a tinge of red in them. "So, it is you?" he asked. Does he know? I thought he was out of the castle. Why was he back so early? He definitely knew I killed Jones. I tried to speak again, but my words got stuck in my throat. He moved closer and held my chin in his fingers. "It is you." "I... I... I... did not mean to..." I started to explain. "If you keep sleepwalking around the castle like this, you might get hurt by a vampire," he said. My heart sat back in my chest. Was this what he was talking about? I thought he knew about Jones. I almost gave myself away. "Why have you been following me?" "I was sleepwalking," I defended. "I did not mean to stalk you." He left me and took a few steps away from me, looking away, as if he did not want to see my face again. "Go back to bed, human."

PLAYING WITH BRYCE
JOVITA A few days passed, and I did not see Lord Ralph. I do not see him in his room when I go to his room clean or anywhere in the castle. Sometimes, I catch a glimpse of him, but it is always too late, as I only see his back. I would not say I wanted to see him, but there is this feeling I cannot explain in my chest. I kept telling myself that it was because I wanted to know how his injury was, but who was I kidding? I knew the wound had healed perfectly now. I got closer to Bryce; we talked a lot when he was washing or repairing an engine in the car. He has the powder, but I could not use it yet because Lord Ralph assigned a vampire who always watched me when I cleaned his room. Lord Ralph was not interested in the death of Jones; he only wanted to know who the human that brought the stake into his castle was. Uncle Kala advised that we lay low for some time until the vampires were done with their investigation. "Can you take a wild guess about what he kept in t

FOUL MOOD
RALPH "There must be something to explain this feeling in my chest," I muttered, scanning the library. I was sure I had read about things like this. There must be something about an unholy attraction to someone else and how I could stop. Jovita had plagued my dreams, and no matter how much I wanted to assume control, I fell deeper into this. Colbert and I have never disagreed about anything since we were made, but I had asked Colbert to leave my castle because he reminded me of the same rules I made. The library was in a mess. I was orderly, but this woman made me feel anything but orderly. Just by being here, she had upset my structured life. I should resent her for it; instead, I found myself craving more of her. Touching her body was my biggest fantasy. I always dream of running my hands through her naked body and letting her warmth seep into my cold skin. This thought had made me avoid her for the past few days. It was an ironic twist of fate because I was the one

HUMAN FEELINGS 1-JEALOUSY
JOVITA Ana followed me through the front door. I told her about Lord Ralph's sudden attitude, and the only reason she could come up with was that he might have found out something he was not supposed to. She was worried about where he was taking me. I would not say I was not scared by his cold and grumpy demeanor today, but as usual, I put it to the back of my mind and walked out of the castle. Lord Ralph was leaning against his sleek black Alfa Romeo; his arms were crossed over his chest, and his long legs were crossed in front of him. He wore a black button-down shirt that hugged his biceps and chest. His first two buttons were open, giving a peek of his hard, bulging chest, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and he wore dark glasses. Lord Ralph looked dangerous. Dangerous temptation in fine cotton. Fine, unbuttoned cotton. I swallowed, wishing I could get a drink or something to distract me from checking him out. It took a mental vise to force my eyes awa

HUMAN FEELINGS 2- FEAR
JOVITA I remained stiff as Lord Ralph paid for us. He stalked off towards the Ferris wheels leaving me to catch up with him. We sat on the coach, and I became aware of how close we were and tried not to think about it or what Uncle Kala had told me earlier. From my peripheral vision, I looked at Lord Ralph and noticed he sat stiffly too. I decided to lighten the mood. "Do you always walk in the park when you go to work?" "I do not do such thing. However, I do whatever I want because I can do it." I restrained myself from rolling my eyes at his narcissistic reply. "Right." The Ferris wheel suddenly jerked, and Lord Ralph gripped my arm and let out a low yelp. I stared at him in confusion. He recovered and kept his face as stoic as he usually does. "Are you alright?" I asked, gazing down at my hand and his tight grip. He followed my gaze and realized he was still holding me. He quickly snatched his hand like I burned him and cleared his throat. "Of

THE ACCIDENT
RALPH "Lord Ralph, I was concerned about what you said to me earlier," Dr. Steve said once I got into his office. I sauntered in and flopped down on the only couch in his office. Dr. Steve's eyes remained on me as he resumed his seat by the desk. I rubbed my temple, not knowing where to start. I had to be subtle in my explanations; if not, he would find out who I was talking about. I needed to confide in someone. "Lord Ralph, please tell me about this deadly symptom you say you experience." I sat up. "Lately, I have been feeling like a fat man is sitting on my chest, but not in a very nice way." The doctor's brows furrowed as he took in what I had just said and tried to process it. "Do you find it difficult to breathe when this happens?" "No. This is not about physical pain or any pain of that sort. In fact, this is not pain. It does not affect my breathing or chest. It’s just... it’s just..." I stuttered off. "How often does this happen?"

SWEET JOVITA
RALPH "I will take her from here," I told the paramedics. "Lord Ralph, we need to take her to the hospital and do proper check-ups. The only injury may seem to be the gash on her head, but she could be bleeding internally." "I don't care," I snapped. I was afraid that if they took her to the hospital, they would run tests and might find out her blood was special. Why was I protecting this woman? I am not even sure she is the one. The paramedics exchanged looks, and one tried to speak, but the other tugged his arm, and he kept quiet. "I will have my doctor come see her at the castle." The paramedics nodded and scurried away. ~~~ A few minutes later, she was lying in my back seat, and we were driving to the castle. I sat in the front seat with the driver and kept staring at her to know if she would stir. I have never been this concerned for anyone before. I feared she would not wake up, even though the paramedics said she was unconscious and would co

OUT OF CONTROL
JOVITA Pain. Excruciating pain rippled through me. Every joint and muscle in my body felt sore. I opened my eyes, but darkness engulfed me, and I wondered where I was. I tried to sit up, but the pain in my head sent me back to bed. The bed was so soft, and I wondered what I was doing lying in such a soft bed. I could not remember anything and doubted I even remembered my name. I sighed softly, not wanting to make any noise until my grace period was over and I found out where I was. Slowly, the event of the evening came back to me. I remembered Lord Ralph asking me to go with some vampires. I remember when the jeep came at our car, and the driver tried to control our vehicle and skidded into the bush and hit a tree. I must have hit my head; that explains this pain in my head. But I wondered if I was dead. Why was there pitch darkness and no noise? Was I in the grave because it was the only place that could be this quiet? A soft snore made me sit up, ignoring the an
