Chapter 61
Erin’s POVI was roused from a deep sleep when Alaric moved. Then, I heard the rustle of sheets. “What time is it?” I asked groggily. Alaric patted my cheek.  “It’s still early.  Go back to sleep.”  He coaxed me gently. My ears strained for any sounds from Cirala’s cot, surprised when I looked at the time.  It was about this time that Cirala would wake up for his feeding. I sat up, too, watching Alaric as he zipped his pants.  He then took a fresh shirt from the drawer and pulled it over his hairy chest. “Where are you going?” He looked hurried and worried. “Fabian sent word. His coven is being attacked by dissenters under Gavyn, and he needs our help.”  He told me. It sent me an alarm.  “How is Fabian?  Has he fully recovered?”  Regret laced my voice.

Chapter 62
Alaric’s POVWe barely reached the border when boulders started raining on us.  They rolled from the top of the mountains in succession at a speed that surprised us. We did not expect the enemy to start early. We have not left our territory yet, but the enemy uses our location against us to pin us down. For a while, we had been busy dodging speeding giant rocks.  They were fast, but we were faster. My men trained for these kinds of things. We use our senses to detect danger faster than any other creature. Smoke billowed around us.  Dust stings our eyes. It was like an avalanche of giant rocks coming from all sides. “We have to take cover,” I told Ben and the others. The area we are in is like a catch basin circled with slopes. We are on the low point, and every time a boulder rolls down, it creates an ear-splitting sound like the rocks were protesting fr

Erin’s POV“Were you able to get in touch with Ben?”  I called Emma to my room, worried because I could not go through Alaric. “I had been trying countless times to open the mind link so I could get word from Alaric, but I could not reach him.”  I shook my head sadly, anxious that until now, I did not receive any word from my mate. “The waiting is killing me.”  I confided in Emma, who nodded at me in agreement.  She, too, had not received any word from Ben.“Where could they be?” I paced the room.  My fingers lifted to my temple as I tried to establish a connection with Alaric. I attempted so many times to open the mind link. It was futile.  Nothing happened.  It remained close, and Alaric was unresponsive.Alaric’s last message was the cocky reminder where he warned me to ravage me when he comes back from their mission. I had wai

Chapter 64
“Bring my mate home and the rest of his crew alive, and I will do as you say,”  I told my condition before agreeing to her demands.  If Lyla would be brazen to bargain with me, what makes her think I will be constrain into keeping the deal one-sided?  I have to, at least, have something in return.  The old Erin who takes cudgels for her sister is gone.  In her place is someone who knows her way to fight back. The hardships I endured made me stronger and hopefully wiser not to become putty in other people’s hands, especially those with a track record for greed and self-aggrandizement.  Alaric told me that it’s not a sin to fight for your rights, and right now, I am fighting for my family, for my son to live his future in peace. “And what if I didn’t?”  Lyla challenged, breaking into my trance.  I eyed the sardonic smirk lacing Lyla's lip

Alaric’s POV“Hmmm,”  Erin grunted when I tugged on the blanket under her. After freeing the blanket, I laid it out over her body. Then I got inside to join her, letting the warmth of the comforter and our pressed skin warm our bodies.  After our intense lovemaking, we had forgotten to get dressed, and the air around the room had become chilly.I pulled Erin’s head to my chest, and she automatically put an arm around my waist.  We stayed like that for a long time. Erin lifted her head from its comfy position in the center of my chest to murmur. “Sleep.”  Then she patted my back before resuming her position wrapped inside my arms. I inhaled her sweet lavender scent and felt my heart constrict. Erin and our baby almost lost me.  I thought I would not be coming back alive after being tricked by a supposedly weak and helpless warlock.

Chapter 66
Alaric pulled Cirala in his arms and started gently talking to our son. It was amazing to see how Cirala’s sob gradually subsided until he finally quieted. When I looked at our son again, he was a picture of a docile child who had never kicked up a fuss earlier, leaving me harassed and stressed. While Alaric talks to our son. He walks back to the bed, carrying Cirala, settling in the middle and leaving me feeling awkward standing in the corner, looking at them. I was not wearing any footwear, and the coldness of the floor seeped through my feet. I felt a chill spreading through the rest of my body. I imagined the rest of my future like this and felt repulsed instantly.I felt like an outcast. Alaric pointedly ignored me like I never existed. His eyes are all on our son. I erroneously thought that after he ran and let steam off, he would return with an improved disposition, but I was clearly mistaken. His mood did not get better after his short trip. Maybe he needed a longer

Chapter 67
It was the day of the fight. The day I dreaded the most. I looked up at the sky and saw that it was overcast. It is not raining, but clouds overshadow the skies. The car stopped in front of the arena. From my side, I could see people milling about. Watchers were ready to jump on the chance to see an Alpha of Alpha Leo's standing being challenged publicly by none other than his own daughter. The fight between me and my father has raised diverse public opinions. Some criticize me for going against my own father. They erroneously thought I was too power-hungry and could not wait to get my hands on my father’s title and everything that goes with it. No one thought that I did not issue the challenge. It was a means to get custody of my mother previously. I swallowed hard. My hands felt clammy that I had to wipe them off the front of my denim. “Are you ready?” Ben asked from the driver's seat. Unbuckling my seatbelt, I turned around to face him and nodded. “Thank you, Ben.

Chapter 68
Erin’s POVWhile the two officers dragged me out, I was surprised to see Ben. I thought he had already left. I did not expect him to stay. He rushed out to me, looking worried. I snapped out of attention in panic. I looked behind Ben to check for the familiar figure of my mate.Ben second-guessed my actions, and he shook his head sadly in reply, silently confirming what my heart knew. Alaric did not come to see me. He was not here. Unsatisfied with the knowledge, I tried to try another way to detect him. I took a whiff, my nostrils twitched as I tried to assimilate the smell around me. There was no scent of apricot and peaches in the air. My nose confirmed what my eyes did not see. With a sinking feeling, I calmly accepted that Alaric, to this last moment, refused to see me. ‘Mate is not here.’ Maya said sadly, feeling put off by the realization that Alaric abandoned us. I smiled wanly at Ben when our eyes locked. Maybe it was for the best. I hate for Alaric to see like

Chapter 69
Alaric’s POVI watched my mate leave from a distance. I observed how her head moved, scanning the almost empty parking lot with only a handful of my people going out of their way to send her off. The rest of the pack knew how the battle would turn out with Erin throwing it away - and they were all unhappy with her decision. I, for one, chose to disconnect from the handful of people lining the parking lot. I refuse to give in. Despite all my efforts, nothing could change Erin’s mind. Until the last moment before she departed, I tried convincing her to call Alpha Douglas and send word that she was backing out of the fight, but she adamantly refused. Erin, being stubborn, argued that she already gave her word when she struck that deal with Lyla. Lyla fulfilled her end of the bargain. Her sister brought me and my team back from imprisonment. Now, Erin has to do her part. She had to fulfill her promise to tank the match in favor of her father and she had no intention of rene
