Chapter 31
Chase's POV “Fuck!” Greene cursed, running restless and through his hair. “Fine, I accept your offer, don’t go to Augo.” Letting out a silent sigh of relief, I gave Greene a tight smile. “Lovely. Now, where is Hwan?.” “Ferg.” He called out and the brutish guard from earlier appeared. “Release the male we have locked up downstairs.” “Yes, Alpha.” “Wait,” Greene said, casting a furtive glance my way, he added. “Clean him up before bringing him up.” “Great,” I clapped as the brute left. “I'll wait in the foyer. The proposal and contract will be in your inbox by next tomorrow." When I saw Hwan, fury rose within me and I spun and stalked towards Greene. “You never got solid evidence but you did all that to him?!” I growled, my wolf dangerously close to the surface. He took one look at my eyes and stepped back, his inept confidence withering away. He deserved to be scared! Hwan was covered in bruises and could barely stand upright, leaning heavily on the guard that had brought him

Chapter 32
Maya’s POV “By the way, Ron, do you know a male called Jon—” I stopped short as I rounded the corner and caught sight of Ron standing in front of the mirror with a vibrant pink beret sitting atop his head. “What are you doing?” I snorted then cracked up when he ripped it off and threw it back on the shelf, the tip of his ears now tinged to match the hue of the woollen cap. He cleared his throat. “Faith made me promise to buy her something so I thought...” He trailed off, pointing in the direction of the beret. I picked it up and added it to the growing pile of clothes on my arm. “She’ll love it.” I smiled. I was glad that Ron had insisted on this shopping trip. It was a much-needed change of scenery and a welcomed distraction. I tried to focus on the clothes in front of me, obsessing over colours, textiles and styles rather than letting my mind stray to Chase and why he had not returned yet. This afternoon, before we left the house, Henry had come back with a bruised-up male na

Chapter 33
Maya's POVFuck my stupid luck! I just might die before 9 PM, after all.Jonathan had the audacity to grin gesturing mockingly to my claws, “Are those what you plan to fight me with?"He pulled out a dagger and I stepped back, bumping into the oven. I was caged in between the island and the oven.My eyes darted frantically in search of an opening to run and when Jonathan noticed, he chuckled— a guttural sound that set my teeth on edge.“You won’t be going anywhere, girly, I told you I would come for you and here you are waiting for me unprotected and so pitifully vulnerable. This is almost too easy.”“I agree, it's too easy and where is the fun in that? So why don't you get the hell out of here, Jonathan.” I said, anger giving me courage. “I have no idea what problem you had with my dad but it has nothing to do with me!”I knew there were guards outside so I sucked in air prepared to scream for help but the sound died in my throat as his dagger whizzed past my head and embedded in the

Chapter 34
Maya's POV I was floating in an abyss then I wasn’t. Searing pain in my skull ripped me out of my peaceful drifting and crash-landed me back in reality. I moaned in pain. Every part of me hurt; my head felt like it had been split in half and something uncomfortable filled up my mouth. Death would have been a welcome relief but I was still very much alive. How come? My vision blurred, going in and out of focus. Bless the goddess (who seems to have abandoned me), I was still in the pack house's kitchen, in a chair. I moved to stand but met resistance and looked down to see my limbs bound by zip ties. Did he think these could restrain a werewolf? I growled, yanking hard on the zip ties with all my might but they wouldn't budge. My tugging turned frantic with panic and I eventually became lightheaded. I could not break free, my wolf was weak from all the blood I had lost. 'Shit.' The gag in my mouth turned my frustrated curse into inaudible grunts. I took in my surroundings and

Chase's POV.Something was terribly wrong. The stillness of the house was not what raised my hackles, I knew everyone would be at the party in town. The foreboding I felt now was because there were no guards around. It was normal for them to stay hidden but I was always able to make out their silhouettes at each corner but today, no single one was here.My dread worsened when I reached out to them in my mind and came up empty.I strode inside, my mind racing.'Where are the guards?'Ron's reply over our mind link came quickly 'Where else would they be? At the house keeping Maya safe.'My steps faltered, the scent of blood filling my nostrils at the same time I processed his words. Were those footprints?'Maya isn’t with you?'I didn’t listen to his reply because I was already running, following the bloody trail to the kitchen where it led.I spotted him first then I saw Maya, pale as death, strapped to a chair and soaked in blood. After that, I saw red.My wolf took over and pounced o

Maya's POV.I woke up with a start, searching for Chase. I could feel him closeby but the harsh lights above me left me blinded. As if sensing that I needed him, he was there in an instant, taking my hand in his and placing a kiss on it.“I'm here, darling, go back to sleep.” The angelic voice I had come to love ordered gently and I happily obeyed. So, I closed my eyes and sunk back into the darkness, away from all the ache.**The next time I woke up, I felt strong. The throbbing pain in my head was gone and my body no longer felt like it had been mauled by a pack of lions. But there was something more...It pulsed in me reaching out to another. It was foreign yet familiar like it should have always been within me.What 'it' actually was, I wasn’t sure but I had an inkling.Chase...My eyes flickered open, immediately searching for him. When I found him inclined on a chair at the foot of my bed, snoring softly, the new feeling in me intensified and then snapped into place like a puzz

Chapter 37
Maya's POVThe pack's physician gave my health an okay yesterday after I woke up and although most of my injuries had healed up thanks to our speedy healing as werewolves, my head wound was going to take a few more days. Also, the few scars scattered on my body will forever remind me of how close to Death's door I had gotten two days ago.Chase and I were in his study with Henry and Ron. I had just finished recounting everything to them too, and had watched Ron's face fall at every point throughout the story where Jonathan showed up.He was leaning against the wall with his arms folded and a frown etched between his brows. When I was done, the incident hung over the room like a weighty blanket as we stayed quiet, lost in our thoughts.I knew Ron felt bad about leaving me but let's be honest, Jonathan would have tried to kill me another time. Plus, it was my stupid ass that had insisted on staying alone when I knew a murderer was after me.Crossing the room to where Ron stood, I bumped

Chapter 38
Maya’s POV The second Chase walked us through the door, our lips crashed together in fervour while our hands roamed free, tugging impatiently on the clothes that separated our skins. His scent flooded my already muddled senses and when I tightened my legs around his hips, he groaned into my mouth, thrusting forward as if he couldn’t help it.“I need you.” He breathed before lowering me onto the bed and then allowing his fingers to travel down my body; down my collar bone to graze my aching breast through my shirt.I moaned and arched into him, craving more.My desire was electrifying and our bond amplified it so that it felt like I might explode from his touch alone— a lovely way to die— but when he settled in between my legs, the reality of what we were about to do hit me like a train.“Wait, wait. Time out.” I pushed up on my elbows, my voice husky and Chase paused his maddening ministrations on my body, arching a brow in question as he panted. We were still fully dressed but a wav

Chapter 39
Maya’s POVWant to know the absolute best way to wake up?It’s with your mate's arms around you, skin to skin, enveloped in his scent and warmth.I had been awake for a while now just listening to Chase's breathing and engraving every detail of his glorious face into my memory.I was slightly jealous of his beautiful dark eyebrows and lashes, then his strong nose, slightly crooked but that along with the faint lines on his forehead only made him impossibly more attractive.I pressed my legs together as I recalled licking his razor-sharp jawline while we made love last night. We had gone at it for hours, pausing once in a while to rest and have laughter-filled conversations but besides that, we had fucked like bunnies until sleep won us over. He had claimed my body so thoroughly that I doubted walking would be possible this morning.I shook away my thoughts before I could get hornier than I already was and returned to studying my mate. I was surprised that I woke up so early while he w

Chapter 40
Maya’s Pov “Drop it off in my study, I’ll be there in a second.” Chase said to Sean, his jaw tight. After Sean left, I turned to Chase. “Why would Kylan send you a letter?” “I have no idea.” He shrugged already standing up. “I’m doing business with him now so it could be concerning that.” I knew about the timbre ordeal with Lunagrove but I still doubted it would warrant sending an official letter. Kylan was anything but formal, if it was about their business, he would have just called the pack’s Beta to reach out to the Alpha. So why then was an official letter coming to Chase directly instead of Ron getting phoned? “I’ll tag along and take a peek, or curiosity will eat me up.” I grinned up at Chase, moving towards the door but he stopped me with a hand on my shoulder. “No need, love. I’ll tell you what it is about when I see you later.” He kissed my forehead and strode out without looking back, if he had he would have seen a frown of confusion and hurt on my face. Why did it f
