Chapter 4: Press conference

Kai's POV

Around seven in the morning, Raine’s secretary arrived and I already knew that. Raine messaged me that Macey is on her way.

She gives me a personal phone number that I can use to contact her and no one else should know that number.

George opens the door for her and we get inside the house after. Macey gave me the folder as soon as we were all seated.

"I don't know why she would do that and I didn't agree to it, honestly. But as her bodyguard and secretary, I have no choice but to agree and just catch her when she needs me to. I don’t know what kind of man you are but I am giving you a warning," Macey coldly stated and her glances were deathly.

I feel like she will eat me any moment that she gets the chance. I cross my legs and look at the marriage certificate. She filled in all the necessary details on her side.

"I don't know what she really thinks but if she can help me stay as far as I can from Emma, then I'll gladly cooperate with her. I don't know what you're talking about but I’m not a bad guy, Macey," I remark, looking at her coldly.

My eyes met her and we tried to dominate each other’s space and see who was the alpha between the two of us. She looks away after a minute. I grab the pen in the middle of the table and start writing my details on this piece of paper.

After a few minutes, I handed the folder to her. “I will go ahead. I need to go back to her side as soon as possible. By the way, ma’am Raine says that she’s inviting you for dinner in her mansion tonight around 7 in the evening.”

She is talking while walking away. As soon as she said the last word, she exited the room. George looks at me and I know he’ll also try to convince me to stop this contract between me and Raine. I raise my hand and George sighs.

"Are you tempted or curious because of what she said? Don’t tell me you prefer virgin women now," he asks. I laugh and look at him. That’s what he really thought, huh?

I pin my elbow on the backrest of the couch and nestle my chin on my palm. “No. With those eyes, I wonder what kind of hell she will bring to Emma. You know how I suffered in that bitch’s hand. I’ve been trying to stay away from her because I know he will ruin me completely if I continue to be their company’s talent. You knew what I meant,” I stated.

George looks at me and I know he sees how serious I am. I never took an interest in girls as deeply as I ever felt for that heiress. It’s not bad if I marry the richest woman on this continent. I stand up and look at my manager.

“Let’s prepare instead. We have a press conference at the hotel at nine; we shouldn’t be late,” I stated.

George sighed and nodded. We arrive at the hotel around 8:47 and there is some press that is waiting outside and keeps on taking pictures and footage as we head to the venue hall that George booked for today.

I already prepared myself for the possible actions that Emma will take after she learns of my decision. I wonder what Raine will do when she finally realizes how ruthless Emma was.

If she only knows the truth, I know she’ll drop the thought of taking me as the father of her children because that idea is clearly absurd.

“Good morning, everyone. Thank you so much for being here,” George says. I grab my microphone and speak out.

“I’m glad that everyone was here and spared their time to listen to my announcement regarding the rumors that are circulating online. I know everyone is worried about my career situation after my 3-month hiatus. I know that all of you were aware that my contract with Harper Entertainment ended last August,” I opened up and continued. I calmed myself and erased that thought. This is my only chance to escape.

"I’ve been reflecting for the past few months, and I'm grateful for how H.E. helped me throughout my career, but I've made a decision. I know this might raise some doubts about my future projects, but I assure everyone that I'll still be doing what I love. You will still see me singing, dancing, and acting. Yes, I won't sign another 2-year contract with H.E."

The reporters were surprised by what they heard and I know most of them were against or worried that changing a company would be the downfall of my career but that’s okay.

I can start with the second phase of my plans. “I am happy to announce that I am now a signed artist for one of the biggest and most famous entertainment agencies. I signed a contract with El Greco Entertainment and they will be in charge of my projects from here on,” I declared.

They are more surprised by what I said. I simply smiled and showed them that there was nothing fishy about the decision that I made.

“Everyone can now have the chance to ask questions.”

After George said those words, I was bombarded with the same questions. They ask what made me change my mind and if I’m not worried that this might be the downfall of my career.

I peacefully answer and hope that I won’t slip a thing. “One more question from us, Kai. It was said that you were rumored to be dating the youngest and most famous chairwoman of the El Greco Empire. Is it true, or is it basically another dating rumor of yours?” she asks.

I smiled and showed my other finger. Macey leaves a ring box on my table before leaving my house. When I opened it, I wasn’t surprised when I saw a ring inside. I decided to put it on.

“Wait, is that a wedding ring, Kai?” another reporter asks

“That dating rumor is not just a rumor. I’m already married and yes, my wife is Raine El Greco,” I announced.

They all gasp, and their cameras flash, and I know they’re focusing the shots on my wedding ring. I know this is not part of what I should’ve announced today but let’s see if Raine can tolerate such an attitude from me.

I’ll detest her arrogance and the power that she’s talking about. They start asking questions. I’ll tell Raine to watch this conference because I know the press will tail her for an ambush interview. The conference was wrapped up after 30 minutes.

I went into my room in this hotel and I wasn’t surprised when Emma called me a dozen times. I know that the conference was live on different social media platforms and her minions had surely informed her. I grab my phone and wait for her next call and that happens in just a few seconds.

I swiped the answer button and put it on my speakerphone. "No! How dare you!" she roared. I can tell that she’s damn mad.

“Didn’t I tell you? You will never have me, Emma Harper.”
