Chapter 2

Walking back to the police station on wobbly legs the two blocks I had to walk to find the payphone in the first place i take a seat and wait for Tommy.

“You cant sleep her miss” a gruff voice yells down the stairs in my direction.

“I’m not fucking sleeping I'm waiting for help and a ride home since you so called officers failed to do your jobs and help me or take me home as you should have” rude I know but I could care less at this point I came here to ask for help and they treated me like I was nothing and refused to help me as they should have.

“If in an hour your still sitting there I will arrest you for loitering” the officer says as he walks away.

I Ignoring the officer who takes his job way to seriously and turn back to watching the silent street for Tommy’s car.

While I'm waiting I watch as a few people come and go some not walking back out. I watch as a few people are dragged into the station kicking and screaming and cussing at the arresting officers.

I’ve been sitting on the cold chain link that’s covered in a hard green plastic for the last twenty minutes when a very handsome man comes walking up the steps heading to the entrance of the building only to come walking back out a short time later cursing the same fat, balding officer who told me he couldn’t help me.

"Long night" comes a husky voice from besides me the handsome man has taken a seat on the bench next to me.

"Yeah something like that" I answer back while keeping my focus on the streets in front of me being a little rude.

"Why are you out here all alone little one" the man asks and I so badly want to reply with none of your business but I hold my tongue.

"I'm waiting for my brother” was my short and to the point reply.

"If you don’t mind can I wait with you"

“Um you don’t have to” o tell him still focused on the street I front of me that’s now scattered with a few cars “thank you though” I turn to look at the man then turn back to watching for Tommy.

“Please I insist” I want to tell this very attractive man to leave me alone but I also don’t want to be alone “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if something was to happen to you, especially since these assholes don’t know how to do their jobs” He firmly tells me while pointing behind him to the main entrance.

Knowing he’s right I let out a small chuckle boding my head in a yes fashion, accepting his offer.

“So what bring you to this place at the crack of dawn” I let my curiosity get the better of me and asked him.

"I came to check on the status of my little sisters missing person case" he says with a sad look on his handsome face and a spark in his eyes that I can’t decipher.

"Oh I'm so sorry” I tell him looking over at him again “I hope they find her" I feel guilty for asking knowing that he was only here sitting on this bench with me in the cold because they haven’t found her yet.

"Yeah me to” he sighs then stands up “Well I should get going or would you like me to stay with you a little longer"

"Um yeah” my answer coming out more as a question then a straight reply.

“Yes please that would be nice I mean if you don't have anywhere else to be" I feel myself blush as I stumble over my own words.

We sit and talk for a few more minutes while I waited for Tommy who seems to be taking his sweet time in getting here.

In the time we sat talking on the cold bench I learned his name was Christopher but prefers to be called Chris, he's twenty-five years old, hates grapes and the Portland Timbers and his favorite color is yellow at which I laughed at.

We were just starting just to get deeper into our conversation when a horn honking in the street pulls attention towards it.

There on the sidewalk stands my brother waving his hands to get my attention then pointing to his invisible watch telling me to hurry up.

“Well that’s my ride” I say standing “It was nice to meet you Chris” I say holding out my hand for him to shake.

“Yeah it was nice to meet you too” he shakes my hand then lets it go and I start to walk away.

“Hey Sasha hold up for a sec” Chris hollers after me, making me stop and turn around to see him quickly walking down the steps to the sidewalk where I'm now standing.

“Uh is, is there anyway I could get your number” a smile tugs at my lips as I look up at the brightest green eyes I've ever seen.

“Sure” I tell him taking his phone from his hand so I can type my number into it.

I hand Chris back his phone then turn back around walking across the street to a now fuming Tommy who’s now late for work thanks to me.

Once seated in the passenger seat I sent Chris a small wave and watch in the side mirror as he disappears from my view.

“Who was that” Tommy asks as he mueves onto the freeway.

“A friend” he hums and continues to drive as I watch out the window.
