I thought I had been doing a good job keeping Amelia at arm’s length, but apparently, I was wrong.

Bennett watches us curiously, but he never makes a comment. Maggie will occasionally make a remark to see my reaction. I’ve told her that she’s just my friend, the same way that Maggie is to me. But Maggie can see right through me. She rolls her eyes and scoffs at me.

I can’t help but want to be around Amelia. I don’t know if it’s the mate bond or if it’s just because she’s that much fun to be around. She’s my closest friend now and a small part of me feels bad for having to hide her and for keeping this secret from her, but it’s for her own good!

I need to distance myself from her when we’re around others. The more people that think that something is going on between the two of us, the harder things will be for her, especially if the council gets involved.
