Chapter 32 | Just Friends

I haven’t seen Maven this angry when it’s just the two of us. Normally he seems relaxed and happy for us to get time together, but today he seems upset.

He opens the door leading us to my hidden apartment and once we’re in there he stalks toward the couch and plops on it. I look at him with my head tilted to the side and I say, “Maven, if you don’t want to hang out tonight, please know that you don’t have to.”

He huffs, “I know I don’t have to, Amelia.”

I press my lips together then say, “Okay, you just seem awfully tense.”

He breathes out and runs a hand through his dark hair before he tells me, “I want you to know that this will never happen, do you understand me?”

My eyebrows scrunch together, and I ask, “What are you talking about?”

“This, whatever you might think is going on between us. I want you to know that we will never be together.”
