Chapter 55

The next morning wasn’t really eventful for Emily. As usual, she had woken up so early to go about her duties as a maid.

Once she was done, she retired back to her quarters, totally ignoring Richard and pretending as though he never existed.

Richard was blank and numb as he observed how quiet and withdrawn Emily suddenly became.

It ached his heart badly, and all he wished to do was apologize to her and plead for her forgiveness.

Once Barbara left the house, he placed a call to Mike and informed him that he would be absent as he wasn’t feeling so well.

“Emily, could you report to the main house? I need you to help me with something”, he said on the telephone, and with a large scowl on Emily’s face, she nodded her head in understanding.

Deep down her heart, she wished that she could stay away from Richard for as long as she wanted, but then, she required no one to tell her that her wish could only prevail in her imaginations.
