SYD WATCHED the door shut behind him before he let out the suffocating air in his lungs. He sat on the same spot where Jemimah was earlier, and with the way his jaw clenched, I could tell he was not happy.

"What? Change of plans, Uncle?" he asked with the tone I didn't like at all.

My fists clenched on my sides as I narrowed my eyes at my nephew. This wasn't the Syril Dawson I left in Esmeray. He was compassionate, respectful, and lively. Even the cheerful glow in his green eyes were gone, and all I could see was a total stranger.

I heaved a sigh. "You know I loved Halia."

He laughed, a mocking one as he shook his head in disappointment. "How sure are you even that she's really Luna Halia, hmm?"

With my eyes piercing at him, my arms folded in front of my chest. "I know. It's not that hard to tell. My heart is too familiar with her soul for me not to know she's the one I once lost."
