Chapter 20

Hailey's POV

My heart pounded. I could only hear the intense thumping in my chest amidst the ringing in my ears.

Unwilling to see me get hurt, he even risked his life to protect me.

Why was he so good to me?

Soon, the car arrived at the door of Connor's mansion.

As the car door opened, a lot of people gathered around to carefully help Connor out.

I couldn't stand steady and was pushed to the side.

I saw the wounds on Connor's back and shoulders. His clothes had been torn by the rogue's claws, leaving deep scratches, and his shirt was already stained red with blood.

Connor was surrounded by those people, about to leave. With wobbly steps, I tried to get closer but failed due to the crowd.

Just then, Connor suddenly turned around and said, "Hailey, come with me."

The crowd made way.

I hurriedly ran towards him.

Connor smirked imperceptibly.

My heart was in a mess.

I ran to Connor and instinctively grabbed his sleeve amid the chaos, while he didn't push me away.

At night, the pack guards patrolled outside, their vigilant eyes scanning the surroundings to ensure safety.

We quickly returned to the villa.

Dr. Ike had been waiting for us in the villa. Connor's wounds needed treatment, and Ike was undoubtedly the most trustworthy doctor among the pack.

As soon as we entered, Ike started to examine Connor's wounds carefully.

"No big problem. The wounds need sterilizing to prevent infection," Ike said.

I watched Connor anxiously as Ike took out his tools and immediately started cleaning and bandaging.

After finishing his work, Ike bade farewell to us and left.

Not long after, someone walked in.

Seeing me stand there, he immediately walked over and greeted me with a smile, "Hello, future Luna, I am Benjamin, Connor's friend."

With all my thoughts on Connor, I didn't want to spare attention to anything else.

People like Matt used to claim to be Connor's friends, but I didn't like them at all.

And Connor did not retort as this guy called me Luna.

I looked at him with confusion.

Connor casually explained, "He's also a member of the Blaze Pack, and he knows that we are mates."

I nodded and then greeted him, "Hello, Benjamin."

He nodded and then walked over to Connor to check his wound again.

I stood aside, filled with worry. For werewolves, strength and resilience were the keys to survival.

However, I remember that Connor's recovery was quite slow. So I was very worried.

"Be careful. He's lost a lot of blood."

Benjamin reassured me, "Don't worry. They are all superficial injuries. A little bleeding doesn't matter"

"But they also hurt!" I said.

Benjamin was stunned.

Then he smiled, "I got it. Can you bring a new set of clothes over? We can't keep him raggedly dressed."

I nodded instantly, feeling sorry. As I ran out of the room, I heard Benjamin chuckle softly behind me.

I quickened my pace.

Soon I came back with new clothes. Though embarrassed, I tiptoed to help Connor put on the clothes.

I carefully helped him, trying my best to avoid his wounds.

Dr. Benjamin stood by to observe my every move, his eyes revealing a hint of approval. "Connor, I will come back tomorrow to help you change the medicine. Remember, the wounds cannot be stained by water and require tender care. Shall we have an Omega from the pack come to take care of you?"

Connor looked impatient and perfunctorily said, "No need."

Benjamin said seriously, "Why not? It would be dangerous if the wounds get infected."

I became even more worried as I heard this.

Now I also knew that Connor didn't like others living in the villa.

I wondered, "What if I stay here to take care of Connor?"

Benjamin smiled gently, "Hailey, if you need help, tell me when."

Thinking that I may ask him for help about Connor's injuries, I nodded, "Can you give me your phone number?"

Benjamin asked in confusion, "Can't you mink-link me?"

Connor suddenly spoke in a cold voice, "I haven't marked her yet, so she couldn't mind-link other pack members."

Benjamin nodded and then told me his phone number.

After Benjamin left, I walked up to Connor and said, "I think Benjamin is right. You still need someone to take care of you."

"No, I don't need. I don't like having people staying overnight in the villa," Connor replied coldly, leaving no room for negotiation.

Recalling the days I had lived in the villa before, I said, "Um, I'd also lived in the villa for some time."

"But you are different." Connor's voice softened slightly.

I wanted to say something but held back. Earlier, Connor asked me to move back, but I refused.

But now, I felt that perhaps I should go back.

Connor just didn't bring it up. My obvious hint failed to arouse any reaction from him.

I beat around the bush for a long time, but Connor remained silent. Finally, I gathered up the courage and spoke directly, "Connor, can I move back to the villa to take care of you?"
