Chapter 13:

The next day, Scarlette woke up to find Gabriel gone. She panicked for a moment before remembering that he had gone out to run some errands in town. She sighed in relief and got out of bed.

After freshening up, she walked around the cabin, admiring the nature surrounding her. Suddenly, her phone rang, and she saw that it was Jackson.

"Hey, Jackson," she answered, smiling.

"Hey, Scarlette. I hope I'm not interrupting anything," he said, his voice laced with worry.

"No, I was just admiring the view outside. What's up?"

"I have some bad news," he said, pausing. "It's about Isabella."

Scarlette's heart skipped a beat. "What happened?"

"She's dead, Scarlette. Someone killed her last night."

Scarlette gasped, her eyes widening in shock. "Oh, my God. Do they know who did it?"

"Not yet, but I have a feeling it has something to do with Gabriel's clan. They're not too happy about him being with you, and Isabella was always a thorn in their side. I just wanted to warn you to be careful."
