Chapter 35

Lucas stared ahead of him as he held the glass in his hand delicately and while Josephine waited for him to speak, she bit the inside of her cheek, scolding herself inwardly for asking him to tell her about himself. She knows everyone has a past_be it painful or a memorable one, but there are some who chose not to remember or talk about their past as it was painful and brought back the pains as they remember them, and she was no different.

“You don’t h-have to tell me. I—”

“It’s fine,” Lucas said and turned his head to meet her eyes. Josephine could see how his expression had turned serious with a slight frown on his forehead.

“I had quite a remarkable past,” he started and the corner of his lips pulled up as if he remembered something exciting. “I had no one to call a friend, was always by myself. But I had a very lovely mother. She understood everything about me and she was the only one for me even though I had a father I wished I never had.”
