Chapter 53

The room fell dead silent as they all stared at Mrs. Lewis and then at Josephine, who was also as confused as them. At that moment, Maya burst into a sudden laugh before her expression changed to that of someone who is miserable.

“Mother,” she called, “are you saying that Josephine’s mother owns the company?”

“Yes,” Mrs. Lewis responded.

“How?” she went further to ask.

“Well that doesn’t make sense, mom,” Maya said on the verge of tears and she sniffed. “You have a company and we both know it. So why are you denying that? Is it because you just want to put her above me?” she point her fingers at Josephine.

“I only just said the truth, believe it or not,” Mrs. Lewis said and Josephine could sense the pain in her voice. “I once had a company, yes! But that was not until your father took it away from me.”
