Two Hundred and thirty eight

CHAPTER 238

"Now, we have two pieces of solid evidence. We've matched Luna Winchester's testimony with the VVIP customer list we already have. Ace is connected to this case, he knows Jason. We just need to confirm that Ace came to the pawn shop on the day of the incident, so we can arrest him for Jason's murder."

Noel, who was sitting next to Nicholas, nodded in agreement. He seemed to read all the notes in Peter's book, before finally handing over the notes to their owner.

"You talked to some of the people Jason had run-ins with?" Noel looked up, seeing Peter sitting at the back.

The four of them, Nicholas, Noel, Hendrick and Peter were now sitting in Nicholas' car. They had a brief discussion in the car so that no one would overhear their conversation, as the media was starting to pick up on Jason's pawn shop. The murder case begins to rise in the media. Making the citizens of New York even more uneasy because of this horrific serial killer.

"Yes, sir! I spoke to two people who had a dispute with Jason, Mr. Lanlord and Mr. Wayne, but both of them only had trivial problems. It was over the price offered by Jason Abraham when they both wanted to pawn items at the pawn shop," Peter explained.

Peter and Hendrick cross-investigated, they split up, trying to find as many witnesses as possible to break down a complicated case like this. While Hendrick met Luna, Peter met another witness.

"It's a small matter that doesn't drive someone to commit a crime. I think we can conclude that Jason's death had nothing to do with business. He ran his business well," Nicholas said, while his three colleagues nodded in agreement. Nicholas looked at Hendrick. "I'm quite happy that Hendrick managed to meet with Luna, he gave us a huge amount of evidence. A restricted group. There were only VVIP customers in it. They could have been in cahoots."

"But you saw the chat history in that group yourself, didn't you? As fellow collectors, they were just busy comparing prices," Noel argued. Noel shrugged, then looked at her three friends in turn. "Luna didn't even know Jason was dead. None of them gave her any news about Jason."

"Maybe it's because their relationship was limited to business. They weren't close personally," Peter opined.

"That's possible," Nicholas replied in agreement. He squinted. "But how did you know that Ace would use the Golden name, Noel?"

Noel shrugged his shoulders. "He grew up because of the Golden Group name. It's an easy thing to remember, and maybe Ace reflexively used that name because he was used to hearing it. He also used Alicia's last name to complete his name in that limited group, right?"

Nicholas nodded his head. "Ace is the prime suspect in Jill and Jason's murders. Did the book find out anything about Jason and his wife's children?"

Noel raised his hands in the air, "I'll try to contact the UK police today."

"Alright." Nicholas looked at Noel, then at Peter and Hendrick in turn. "By the way, you'd better take a mini-mala break. It's New Year's Eve, you don't need to guard Jason's pawn shop anymore, but make sure the police line is still stretched there. Lock all the doors to prevent the media from breaking in. Until we find Jason's kids and wife, we'll assume that the case is not over."

"Then what about Ace, Chief?" asked Peter, he was always curious about things.

"After the New Year celebration, you, Noel and Hendrick should check the city's CCTV. We can focus on finding Ace's whereabouts from now on. We finally know that Ace was involved in Jason and Jill's death."

Hendrick cleared his throat, he gave his colleagues a confused look. "Ace was involved in Jill's case?"

Noel and Nicholas exchanged glances. They agreed not to tell about Ace's fingernails found in Alicia's house. And quickly, Noel gave an answer. "There was someone who saw Ace coming to Jill's house on the other side of the cliff. That could be strong evidence."

Hendrick's face looked confused and troubled, and that made Nicholas even more curious about Hendrick. Nicholas also planned to find out Hendrick's reaction after hearing that Ace was the prime suspect in two murders at once. If Hendrick had anything to do with Ace, Nicholas would take advantage of Hendrick. This was a moment he couldn't afford to miss.

"You can go home and rest. You only have tonight off, because tomorrow we'll get back to work and catch that asshole Ace!"

Hendrick got out of the car to go home in his own car, while Nicholas said that Peter would be dropped off by his car. As soon as Hendrick's car left, Nicholas followed behind Hendrick's car.

"Are we going to spy on Hendrick?" asked Noel for confirmation.

And Nicholas nodded yes. He turned the wheel slowly, trying to keep his distance so Hendrick wouldn't suspect he was being followed.

"I want to see his reaction. Whether he will go to his colleagues to divulge this information or not," Nicholas said.

Peter the junior detective could only surrender and follow his two seniors obediently. After all, he also didn't want to have a colleague who had secretly become a conspirator of the killer in the serial murder case.

The car swerved to follow Hendrick's car through the city streets. It was still daylight, but the snow had started to fall again. Nicholas' vision narrowed, not as far as it had been at the beginning. Forced to speed up, Nicholas accelerated his vehicle. He overtook several cars in front of him, as Hendrick suddenly accelerated his car down the street.

"Why is he speeding? Does he realize he's being followed?" Noel squinted as one hand clung to the side of the car.

"He must be in a hurry to get this information to someone. The sooner Hendrick gets the information, won't it be better for the killer? The killer could have escaped after receiving the information from Hendrick, and before that happens, we need to stop him." Nicholas looked at Noel and Peter in turn, he smirked, "I won't let Ace escape me again."
