James was trying to process this information.

"I had no idea. I mean, you never mentioned any of this before."

"I'm so sorry for not telling you earlier," Alice apologized, looking down at her lap.

"It's just that everything happened so quickly, and I was trying to adjust to the changes in my life."

James tried to process this unexpected revelation. It was a lot to take in.

Alice continued, "The reason I'm telling you all this is because... I don't want to keep it a secret. I thought you should know."

James's expression filled with concern. "And now, you're pregnant?"

Alice nodded, her gaze dropping to her belly. "Yes, and it's been quite a surprise for me too. I didn't plan for any of this."

"What about your husband? Did he know about your pregnancy?" James inquired.

"No, he doesn't, and I don't have any plans to tell him," Alice replied with a hint of sadness. James was taken aback by her response. He couldn't help but ask.
