Chapter 2

After washing up, Lucas comes down on his work clothes. He was wearing a light gray suit.

Alice swallowed dryly as her eyes studied him. Her heart was pounding uncontrollably.

He is Lucas Grill, CEO of Green International company and one of the most influential businessmen in the country.

Although he wasn't a male model, his physical appearance was striking. His lush, black hair was carefully groomed and had a rippling quality that indicated his robust health. Despite having beetle-browed features that occasionally furrowed in frustration, he was handsome in a subtle manner. His aquiline nose and prominent cheekbones were well-suited to his strong, Spartan shoulders and basalt jaw, which exuded latent, leonine power. With purpose and authority, he always walked with a tiger-like gait.

As he walks into the dining area his eyes come to hold hers and she feels like an electric current handed on her body. She gave him a warm smile and immediately moved her eyes around and began to serve breakfast. After serving him she also sat down on a chair.

There is nothing to talk about between them. They only have conversations in bed with their bodies except that there is nothing.

The house was completely quiet, the only sound was their spoon touching the plate. While eating breakfast, Alice felt someone's eyes on her and raised her head to look at him.

Lucas was looking at her.

" Do you need something? " She felt that he needed something so she asked innocently.

"No" he replied with a frown and stood up. Alice felt he wanted to say something but he didn't. Since she came back, Why was she feeling everything so strange in this house?

She would always ask about his well-being whenever he went out for work.

It was the first time Alice had left the house after their marriage, but Locus was not trying to know a single word about her, and she felt sour.

But She was already used to his cold and indifferent behavior toward her.

She remained on the table but he had already left for work. After hearing his car leaving the house, She proceeded to tidy up before heading to her room to prepare for work and eventually, she left the house.

As soon as she reached the office, her colleagues greeted her with a cheerful and she returned their greeting with a smile.

"Good morning, Alice!"

"How was your trip"

One of her colleagues asked how her trip was, and she replied, before making her way into her office.

"It was great!"

Once inside, she put her things in their proper places and sat down on her chair, ready to submit her reports.

As she went through the reports that needed to be submitted, Alice's mind wandered to the events of the past week. She was proud of herself for successfully leading the team and achieving the project's goals within the stipulated time frame. But at the same time, she couldn't shake off the feeling of anxiety and nervousness that had crept up on her since yesterday.

Just then, her phone rang, and it was her boss on the other end.

"Can you come to my cabin immediately?" he said and summoned up without waiting for a response. Alice's heart sank, and her mind raced to figure out what could be the reason for the sudden summons.

She gathered her reports and headed towards the boss's cabin.

But as she exited her office, she noticed a gorgeous figure leaving the CEO's office, causing her heart to ache and her grip on the document to tighten.

Alice quickly retraced her steps and collapsed onto her chair with a deep breath, attempting to soothe herself as she usually did.

She is Milla Smith, Lucas's ex-girlfriend, who was a renowned businesswoman. Colleagues around Alice couldn't stop gossiping about Milla.

"She looks more beautiful in real life than on the screen," Alice overheard her colleagues discussing.

"Yes, you know I heard they are getting back together," another girl added.

"What? Oh my god, I'm so happy for her. I'm a big fan of hers. She's so kind and beautiful," two girls excitedly chatted as they left for their work.

Alice fought back her tears and took a deep breath. She had been aware of Lucas and Milla's past relationship before their wedding, but at that time, they weren't together. Milla had been in America for work, and she didn't return until a few months ago. Since her return, the internet had been abuzz with sightings of Milla and Lucas together. Alice had even seen them dining at a restaurant a few times, and their news was all over the internet.

Lucas never discussed Milla or their relationship, so Alice never dared to ask about it.

After a while, she rallied her courage and ventured out of her office.

with each step feeling heavier than the previous one.

She took a deep, calming breath before knocking on the CEO's door.

A stern, frigid voice replied, "Come in," causing her heart to sink further.

Despite her apprehension, she entered and met with his dangerous intense eyes which only added to her anxiety.

She swallowed, avoiding his eyes, and walked forward professionally, he also turned his eyes back to his laptop and his long beautiful finger began to run on the keyboard.

"Those are some project results and I have already mailed you other important ones," she said as she placed the documents on the table.

"I heard from the client that everything went smoothly. I'm glad to hear that," Lucas says, sounding pleased.

"I wanted to touch base with you and see if you're ready to present your findings to the rest of the team later this afternoon"

He added in a professional voice.

Alice felt a knot form in her stomach but she was good at controlling her emotion.

"Yes, of course. I'll have the presentation ready by then," Alice replies, trying to sound confident.

"Hmm," Lucas only nodded in response.

She presumed that he had other matters to discuss apart from the project, therefore, she remained quiet and waited for him to start the conversation.

"Anything else ?" She was too busy to explore him and flapped when suddenly his cold voice boomed in her ear.

" No, thank you Mr. Grill" She shook her head and walked out of his office.
