Chapter 4

" Alice"

Suddenly Lucas's roar was heard and Alice instantly got up from the ground.

She looked at her hand, she was still holding his coat. She hurriedly put the coat on the bed and wiped her tears and took a long breath.

She knew that he was not a patient person and she was not in the mood to hear scolding from him, so she hurriedly opened the door.

"What were you doing while closing the door?" Expectedly he burst on her.

"I'm sorry" she apologizes immediately lowering her head.

"I'll make dinner " Before he could notice anything she rushed out. Lucas was stunned to see her. She runs downstairs as if she was running away from her life. He stood up at the door in amazement for a long time before walking into her room with his few clothes in his hand.

His room was a mess so he needed to use her room.

There were a few other rooms in the house but he didn't want to go to the other.

Alice's mind was not in the right place, many things were playing. She finally understood why he was confused when they were having breakfast in the morning. So he was planning to tell her that his love returned, and now he doesn't need her anymore.

"Aahh"

Alice was lost in her own world, her thoughts and worries swirling around in her head. She had so much on her mind that she didn't even notice the hot water that she had been pouring into the cup, spilling over her hand.

The pain was so intense that she cried out in agony, the tears streaming down her face as she clutched her injured hand.

In a panic, she rushed over to the sink and turned on the cold water, letting it run over her hand in an attempt to soothe the searing pain. She was so absorbed in her own pain that she didn't even realize when he came near her. It was only when she felt his big hand on her own that she looked up, her tear-filled eyes meeting his.

"Where is your mind?"

He looked angry, and she could feel the heat of his frustration as he scolded her for not paying attention.

He quickly grabbed an ice pack from the fridge and swiftly placed it on her burnt skin.

The redness on her hand only seemed to make him more upset.

Afterward, he shot her an angry look and uttered, "If you don't know how to cook, then don't even bother trying."

She was feeling hurt and she wiped her tears away with one hand while pulling her hand away from his grip.

She bravely retorted, "I am capable of taking care of myself"

She snatched the ice pack from his hand and stormed out of the kitchen in a fit of rage.

Alice couldn't help but feel like he was being heartless. Didn't he see how much pain she was in?

Although he doesn't care about her,

did he really have to be so harsh? All she wanted was a little bit of comfort, a kind word, or a gentle touch, but instead, she was met with anger and frustration.

Lucas was caught off guard by her sudden change in demeanor. He had never seen her so mad before, especially not in his presence.

Alice made her way to the living room and grabbed a first aid kit before sitting down on the sofa.

"Let me help you"

Lucas followed her and sat beside her, offering to help her. However, she fiercely pushed his hand away and said, "You don't need to bother"

Her voice was still frigid and distant, leaving Lucas feeling shocked and confused.

He couldn't understand why Alice was acting so cold towards him suddenly.

When he came she was in such high spirits as always but now she was acting like a different person.

Despite her protests, Lucas forcibly took medicine from her hand. Alice tried to resist, but Lucas gave her a warning look that made her halt immediately.

However, he noticed a sudden fear in her eyes, which made him feel uncomfortable.

"Aah"

As soon as Lucas touched Alice's burn, she cried out in pain with a hiss. He looked at her and sighed while shaking his head. He then blew on her hand to ease her pain, which surprised Alice since she didn't expect him to be so gentle. Her heart was racing loudly, and she felt a little parched.

After applying the medicine to her burn, Lucas put the box back in its place.

"I'll make dinner," he said as he walked towards the kitchen.

"No, I'm good now, I'll cook" Alice hurriedly ran to catch him.

She had never seen him cook anything since she had moved in, and he had even told her that he didn't know how to cook.

"Go back and sit down"

Lucas was quick to snap at her.

Feeling hurt and embarrassed, Alice bit down on her lips as she turned back to the sofa and sat down quietly.

Alice felt bad for causing him trouble, but she couldn't let him see how upset she was. Lucas went into the kitchen and started cooking dinner. Alice felt guilty for not being able to help him.

And she felt worse when an anonymous text message popped out on her phone.

[It's time for you to return him back to me.]

Alice's heart practically stopped when she read the message, and there was no doubt in her mind about the sender.

She slowly raised her head and shot a glare at Lucas, who was occupied in the kitchen. Another message appeared, accompanied by an image.

(I know your marriage is just a contract, so it will be better if you end it)

Alice's eyes widened in shock when she opened the attached image. It was a picture of her and Lucas's marriage contract. This document had been so confidential that only Lucas and Alice were aware of it. The fact that Milla had sent her the picture was a clear indication that Lucas had divulged the entire truth to her
