CHAPTER 27

RUBY’S POV

Dax didn’t say a single word to me all through the drive home and when Simon finally arrived at my driveway, I moved to get out of the car and Dax held my hand. I looked at him and he stared at me with pleading eyes without saying anything.

Still feeling numb and finding it hard to trust him at the moment, I pulled my hand out of his without uttering a word and opened the door then I got out and walked toward my porch with shaky legs and a subsiding panic attack.

I got to the front door before Simon drove into their driveway and that was when the dam broke. The tears fell in torrent and I heaved hard while a hole caved its way in my heart and the numbness faded. Even after dumping me, everything Dax did still hurt me.

Why did it have to happen on a night that I was on a date with him? Why did it have to be Dax? Why him all the time?

I fell to my knees and clutched onto my chest in an attempt to ease the ache I felt but nothing happened and it even hurt more pain
