CHAPTER 29

RUBY’S POV

“Are you alright? I came to check up on you” Dax asked me once I opened the door and our eyes met and I nodded in response before letting him and Simon in. Then I walked over to a chair and sat down before urging them to sit too.

They did and we all remained silent for a while as I avoided Dax’s stare. It felt like he was looking into my soul and it felt weird to have him worry about me. I had been fine for eight years without him so I didn’t want his worry now. He could keep it to himself.

“Ruby, I…” he was about to speak when I held my hand up to stop him and he ceased talking.

“I know what you’re about to talk about but Sally is home and I don’t want her to know anything about what is going on. She’s too young so we can talk after she’s gone to school” I told him and he understood immediately so he nodded and sat back in the chair he occupied.
