Chapter 62

Lorena's POV

I was stunned as Kaya ran into my arms and she was in tears. She was supposed to be in school. When did she come home?

"Hey, hey, hey, calm down. What's the problem?"

I smoothed her hair and she continued to sob into my shoulder. Hazel looked at me and I was just as confused as she was.

"Kaya," I asked gently. "What's the matters?"

She pulled away from me and wiped her eyes. They were red and looked sore. It seemed she had been crying for a while.

"I came from school and my dad called me to his office. I don't know how he found out that I got a B+ in my English test. He then began to yell at me and said that..."

She was choked with tears and began to cry again. I tried to comfort her and get her to keep talking.

"A B+ isn't bad at all. I'm proud of you."

I tried to make her feel better. Deep down, I truly was proud of her. She was a sweet little girl and she deserved all the praise in the world. Sometimes I wished she was mine.
