Chapter Forty

Madeleine

“Trusting you is my decision, betraying me yours.”

Hayden just said that and left me in the very office in which I was accused of stealing.

He just left me in that office with the papers sprawled on the table and the door ajar.

He had left me to freely check through whatever I wanted. 

Despite finding me with evidence and catching me red-handed, he had simply left me to do what I pleased.

If his words had felt like a tight slap, his action had punched me in the gut.

I could only look at his retreating figure as he walked away from me with his shoulders drooped and climbed up the stairs. I stood by the doorframe looking at me, willing him to turn around and look at me just once, but he did not.

He simply walked inside and turned off the lights of his room. For a long time, I stood there with tears freely flowing down my cheeks, as they soaked my shirt, after splattering on it.

Why do we need a readers note at the end of EVERY chapter? I mean they are short enough as it is
