Chapter 1

Danica

The man wouldn't stop looking at me. His wide-opened blue eyes were fixed on me. My body trembled, and I could feel my eyes dampen from the fear that was consuming me.

“I, Logan Summer, Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, reject you...” He paused, remembering that he didn’t know my name. My lip and chin quivered as anger and sadness overshadowed me. I clenched my fists tightly.

The rejection pierced my soul like a sword. I never thought I would be lucky to have a second chance mate, because it was rare in our world. But I hit the jackpot, and the man was rejecting me without knowing the tiniest thing about me.

Tears accumulated in my eyes. I felt my heart shatter to pieces. Two rejections on my eighteenth birthday? It was the worst day of my life.

“Why…” I wanted to know what I did wrong. Was I not good enough to be his mate?

“Alpha Logan!” a voice called out from the center hall, interrupting me.

The name resonated in my head. Alpha Logan! My eyes opened wide in complete shock. Although he mentioned his name earlier, I was too consumed with the fear of rejection to pay much attention to it.

Why would the moon goddess make the infamous world-class cold-hearted alpha my mate? Logan was undeniably gorgeous, but his cold-heartedness made him off for me. Most women still tripped for him, but that couldn’t be me.

“The council meeting is about to commence," the guy continued. Alpha Logan stared coldly at me, then approached the guy and left me standing like a fool. My eyes followed him while he met the guy. Logan exchanged conversations with him, and the guy frowned at me. I knew this was far from over. Why wouldn’t he completely reject me now? We could get it done with. The last person I’d want to get mated to would be the bloody, heartless murderer Alpha of the North. I’d rather become a rogue. For peace's sake, the man killed people to expand his pack’s territory and captured women for harems.

Later,

“Don’t tell me you’ll really go through with this.” A guy with brown eyes frowned at Logan as he sat on the edge of the bed. “I can’t believe this is happening.” He continued.

“Niel!” Logan yelled, glaring at him.

“Sorry.” The guy brushed his fingers through his hair.

“Calm down, guys; you’re getting too worked up.” Another guy standing at the corner of the room said, smiling. His smile revealed the dimples on his cheeks. He was the guy who told Logan about the commencement of the council meeting the other time. “She is so pretty that I cannot help but be concerned about Lily.” He chuckled.

Who the hell was Lily?

“This isn’t the time for that, Joey.” Niel snarled at him.

“I’m curious why you announced that you accepted me as your mate at the council meeting when you were on the verge of rejecting me a few hours ago. Your friends don’t like me, and I doubt your pack members will want to see my face either. So will someone tell me what I am doing here and why you are suddenly accepting me as your mate?” My breath burst in and out as fury ran down my spine.

“She’s smart too.” Joey smiled and shook his head.

“Good, you know you’ll have no place in our pack. I’ll never serve a lowlife omega like you as my Luna.” Niel frowned.

“I can’t remember forcing him to accept the mating bond,” I said as my eyes bulged.

“Had you not been a pushover that disgusts your entire pack, Laure and the pack council wouldn’t have suggested that he get mated to you.” Niel clenched his fists. “An omega Luna? This has never happened before in the history of our pack.” Niel glared.

“Give us a moment,” Logan said to Niel and Joey. They tilted their heads toward each other, exchanging glances, then nodded.

Niel stood and glared at me for a few seconds.

“You aren’t just omega, but latent too. How do you feel when others shift and you can’t? You are nothing, and you still have the guts to talk back to people like us. The people who raised you can’t even wait to get rid of you. If you think you can become Luna of the North, you had better be ready to pass through me.” He whispered in my ear before he headed out of the room with Joey. Tears drenched my eyes.

People reminded me of who I am at every opportunity they get, but that hit me differently. Being a latent omega has been the greatest embargo of my life. People hated me for that without getting to know anything about me. I have gotten so used to it that it barely bothered me except that it made me a bit rebellious, though I got punished for it every time, but I didn’t mind; it made me less of a pushover to other omegas, who cried like fools anytime a pack member bullied them.

Logan stood up from the sofa that he was seated on and walked towards me. My body cowered as he strolled towards me. The gaze that escaped his blue eyes made shivers run through my body. I stared at his wide shoulders and broad chest as he stopped at my front. His alluring scent of fresh cedarwood hit my nose, intoxicating me.

“You belong to me now.” He pulled the strands of hair from my face to the back of my ear and my breath was close to ceasing.

“I belong to nobody. I would rather become a rogue than leave hell for hell.” I muttered under my breath. His touch sent a spark down my nerves. My wolf, Shay, raced inside of me with excitement. Traitor.

“Hell for hell?” He caressed my face with his hand. My body shivered as he touched my face. Shay wanted him to take us and bury himself deep inside us. He was the horrible and fearsome Alpha of the North. How could Shay not be bothered about this?

He swept his fingers over my lips, and they quivered under his tender touch.

I had a lot on my mind to say to him, but my body and Shay were so swept away that my brain blacked out, wanting only one thing—him, like he hypnotized me.

“We leave tomorrow.” He pulled away from me and walked away, approaching the door. I came back to my reality, shocked. I turned to him before he could leave.

“You are Alpha of the North and could have refused the council’s suggestion,” I muttered. His footsteps stopped abruptly.

“No Alpha has ultimate power over the council, no matter how powerful they are. Laure started it without knowing we were fated.” He lied. Maybe no other Alpha could have, but he could. The council members feared him more than anyone could imagine.

“Laure did?” I couldn’t believe my ears. Laure was supposed to protect me.

“What! Do you feel betrayed by your father?” Logan smirked.

“He isn’t my biological father, and betrayal?” I scoffed. “It’s what I have gotten since I could remember... Please complete the rejection. I don’t want to be mated to you.” My eyes gleamed, hoping he would reject me. I had nowhere else to go if he rejected me. My parents wouldn’t want me to stay in the pack anymore, but I was more willing to find my path than get stuck with Logan.

“It’s good that the feeling is mutual.” He left the room, shutting the door behind him, and I froze in awe.

I was certain he didn’t want me, and neither did Niel nor Joey. Why, then, was he willing to mate with me? Was he doing this because he didn’t want to go against the council?

I plunged out of the room, rushing after him.

“Danica!” a familiar voice called out.

Damn it, can the blockhead just leave me alone? I stopped and stared at him.

“Can we do this later?” I glared at Ausha, whose eyebrows furrowed. I left him and ran after Logan, who was still walking away.

“I need to talk to you.” Ausha grabbed my arm.

“I don’t want to.” I tried yanking my hand from him, but he held on tight. “What business do we have together again? You first rejected me, and now your dad is giving me off to a monster.” My hand yanked off this time.

He gazed at me with damp eyes. “Danny, I’m sorry. We can work things out. You don’t have to go with him if you agree to be my mistress.” He held my hand again.

I frowned at him. “Are you kidding me? Between you both, I don’t know who is the worst. I’ll never change my mind and accept you for whatever reason. Now let my arm go.” I yelled.

“Danny, please.” He looked into my eyes.

“Let me go.” I yelled again.

“Listen to me.” He held on tight to my arm as I kept pulling it away. His tight grip burned my hand.

“You’re hurting me.” I pulled again.

“I won’t let you go if you don’t stay still and listen to me.” He gripped it tighter, and I groaned in pain. I was about to give him a hard kick on his balls when a hand kicked Ausha away, snatching my arm from him. “She said to let her go!” Logan roared. His eyes burned in fury.
