Chapter 078

I stared at her in shock, my heart pounding in my chest. Did she know Keith? How? Maybe she was talking about a different Keith.

I turned to him, searching for answers, but his face was a mask of inscrutability.

"Keith, what's going on here?" I demanded, my voice a mixture of confusion and urgency.

Keith sighed, rubbing his temples as if trying to ward off a headache. "Richard, there's a lot you don't know. She's... well, she's someone I knew a long time ago. It's complicated."

"Complicated how?" I pressed, not willing to let it drop. "How do you know her?"

Keith glanced at the unconscious woman in the back seat, then back at me. "Her name is Yilena. We were... involved, years ago. We parted a long time ago and I hadn't seen her since. Until recently."

My mind was reeling. This whole situation was spiralling into something much deeper than I had anticipated. "And now what?"

"Let's get her home first. After that, we'll talk." Keith said, walking to the driver's seat.

My thoughts raced.
