SIXTY THREE

Alexa’s POV

I couldn’t sleep, whatever sleepiness I had been feeling earlier vanished and I found myself staring at Calan in the dark, found myself worrying about him, found myself praying he would be alright. He had fallen asleep not too long after we had gotten in bed and I was glad, but my heart kept on pounding heavily as I had reached out and touched his temple to feel his temperature; I had found his skin clammy and it worried me more.

Not knowing what to do, I inched closer to him and buried my face in his chest hoping that I’d stop worrying and fall asleep, and I was relieved when I felt him drape his arm around me, at least I knew he wasn’t overwhelmed by a fever which rendered him oblivious to his surroundings. I let my eyelids droop and after what seemed like an eternity I drifted off.

I’m not sure for how long I had slept, but my eyes fluttered open when I felt movements from beside me, my eyes widened and my heart skipped as I thought for a moment that he hadn’t gotten
