Chapter 2

Eden pov

I agree that I’ve not been having the best night rest this period, that would explain a whole of things, especially this one. There was no way I was hearing correctly.

“She’s quiet.”

“This has to be the most stupidest joke I’ve heard all year,” I snapped at Percy who was watching me patiently. I turned to dad who had his chin resting on the back of his hands. His face was stoic making his expressions hard to read.

“What is the meaning of this?” I asked him.

“You didn’t tell her before now-” Percy turned to my father with a brow shot up. My eyes were running miles along my heart, this had to be a joke. A stupid prank from the universe.

“Eden- the-”

“Tell me what in the world is going on? I want answers. REAL ANSWERS.”

“He’s right. Percy here is the man you are going to get married to.” My father answered calmly, like he had not dropped a bomb on me.

“This is a joke. There is no way this is happening.” I shot out of the chair like it had fire and carried my bag. “I’m not having it, I’m not going to sit down here and listen to the nonsense. I asked for your help and not to be pranked with some stupid news like this.” I was fuming, ignoring the stares from both men I head towards the door.

“If you leave that door Eden, you’ll never get the help you need to keep your mothers business running. It would die just like she is now.” Father stated and every part of me stopped. Still and breathless.

My hands which were few meters away from the door dropped down to my side clenching into a fist.

“You asked for my help Eden, I am so generous to provide help and Percy here wants to help. If you say no, it’s fine. You’ll be free to do whatever and watch what your mother worked so hard to build c-”

“Don’t you dare talk about her like you know her!” I snapped turning to face him. My eyes narrowed in on him, if my self restraint wasn’t strong I would’ve crossed over and choked him.

“I Do Know her Eden, she is my wif-”

“She isn’t your wife.” I corrected him.

“Whatever you want to say Eden, it doesn’t change this situation at hand. You need my help to keep things running.”

“So what? I have to marry some strange man to get the help-” I scoffed with my anger hanging just around my throat.

“However you say it.” His thin lip voiced.

“How could you?” I raked my fingers through my hair. “How could you think the best way for you to help me is to get me married off to a strange- your own daughter.”

“Exactly Eden, I’m your father and I know what’s best for you. Percy is no stranger, he’s y-” before father could finish Percy interrupted.

“You can think about it Eden- no one is rushing you to agree yet. Just take a look at the two sides.”

With no batting of eyelash, I stared at him the reason I was going to be tied down to something I didn’t want to do.

“There is nothing to think about, I am done.” With those words I turned on my heels and walked out of the building on no occasion turning back.

……………………………

“This is the man you’re getting married to.” The words replayed in my head as I stepped out of the shower in a white robe and a towel around my hair.

“Stupid joke.” I snapped to myself. My mirror stared back at me as I unwrapped my hair from the towel, my shoulder length hair falls in uneven waves around my collar bones.

Shuffling through my wardrobe, I grabbed my lacey underwear and tugged them on, with everything that has happened in the last few hours, I was going to get drunk tonight. I need to flush everything was and I was going to use alcohol to help me do that.

The drive to the bar uptown was slow but after scrolling through my phone staring at pictures of mum and me. The driver knocked on the door when he got there and I placed my phone away and opened the door.

Once I stepped out, goosebumps rode up my bare legs and a good portion of my thighs. The black dress was one I hadn’t wore since when I got it a year ago.

The fur coat crushed further into my skin as I walked towards the door ignoring the queue. There was shouting from the back but I didn’t care.

The bouncer looked me up and down, he didn’t bother to ask question and with a smile moved aside for me to step in.

“Welcome Miss Maverick.”

I paused. My eye brow shot up in surprise. How does he know my name? I’m very sure I’ve never been here or any bar in the city for anyone to know me. I shrugged the feeling aside and stepped inside. The new atmosphere smelled of expensive mix, from perfumes to alcohols and lime, the colored lights of pink and blue twisted in the air dancing with the people on the dance floor.

This was it. All I wanted.

After several drinks at the bar and angry curses about my fathers decision.

“St- ve- ver-very stupid th- things- oops.” I stumbled out of my chair as I moved to the dance floor. With my fur coat on the bar table my bare hands shoulders and back is out for everyone to see my body. I tried to dance but with the amount of alcohol in my system I wasn’t so sure of what I was doing.

Until I stumbled into a hard warm chest, I was certain that my heels shouldn’t keep me up, but I didn’t feel my kneels colliding with the ground.

“Uh- uhm – I- thank you- mr h- ha- hard flesh-y. I jus- do you- do you wa-want to- he- get out of here- yo- you c-” I leaned further into him with my eyes barely opened. He smelled nice.

“Sure love, we can go wherever you want.”
