SOPHIA
What could it be?
I wondered as my phone chimed and I took it up with my eyes engrossed in the screen
‘Meet me in the sitting room right now, Sophia.’
The text message sounds very urgent. I got up from the bed and I tied my gown around my body.
“I'm here Dad,” my voice struck into his reverie as he sat on the couch with his shoulder slumped, he gave a sharp inhale as he stared at me with his eyes shadowed in frustration.
What might be wrong with him? it should better be something measly, I thought.
“Sophia I called for you because you will be getting married to Damian in a few days.” He huffed then cringed his head in shame as his foot kept tapping the floor slowly.
My body stiffened as my eyes widened.
Unbelievable!
With a confused look, “What? Is that a joke? I don't understand why telling me this out of nowhere,” My voice quivered.
He slowly looked at me with his head slightly raised, “You have to Sophie, consider me, else I will end up in jail.”
I stood right in front of Dad, my armpits growing sweaty and my eyes reddened with tears, “Daddy you can't do this to me, I don't know this man you are talking about here, please, I can't.”
“You have to understand that, I'm your father and I must tell you it's hard for me to do this, it's not my intention to give my daughter's hand in marriage like this. You are grown up and you have seen what I have gone through trying to settle investors' money since the company crashed. Please do this for me,” His calm voice was full of frustration.
I know my Dad has done more than enough for me since when I was a kid. I know he loves me and won't let me get into danger, I tried within me to make up my mind for this he is telling me right now but it seems to be a hump one can't quickly jump over.
I gulped hard cleaning the tears that trickled down my cheeks, “I can't Dad” as I ascended the stairs running with my hand covering my mouth since either me or my tears wanted to burst out.
I hastily got into the room and slammed the door almost immediately, leaning at it as I looked into the space with different thoughts running through my head, as I stood frozen and my breath coming in heavy gasps.
“Sophie, please open the door.”
I contemplated whether I should open the door or not, then I decided to go with the former.
I opened up just to see my Dad looking at me anxiously with his hands crossed over his chest and his brows creased
“Please, my daughter I'm begging you, you have to do this for the sake of our family, my name, your dad,” with the look in his eyes I knew this was my fate and I had to accept it but it's not that easy.
I just need time to process the whole situation.
“Dad, don't worry I have to go look for a way to get the money we are going to pay them, if it means collecting a loan I will do that I swear and as time goes on I will be working and paying before you know I'm done, I said abruptly in my hoarse voice which happens as a result of my weeping.
He stared at me as he heaved a deep sigh and then shook his head.
I know his reaction is him indirectly telling me he doesn't believe in me but I have to try.
“Sophie this has been done already and the money I'm supposed to pay you can't get such an amount from doing menial jobs.”
“What are you saying, Dad?”I looked at him in disbelief, waiting impatiently for what he would say next.
“I have been in talks with Damian for some time now,” he shook his head them averted his face, “He has paid the investors that's why I'm here with you, Sophia,” he returned his gaze to me, “ else I would have seen today behind bars”
I opened my mouth to express myself but I froze because I couldn't find the words
“S-So I-I'm g-getting married t-to D-Damian?” I muttered as my heart raced in my chest
He flicked his eyes quickly at my face, “Yes Sophie,” as he puffed.
“We signed the agreement yesterday, I'm sorry to let this happen to you, Sophie” a tear rolled down his cheek, “ I know, I have failed as a father but please bear with me I'm sorry.”
My heart kept rising and falling in pain and my breath seized in my throat like I got hit with a ton of bricks.
“Dad, I have dreams of my own and Jimmy loves me. You can't do this to me” I yelled with my fist clenched. But Dad just stared at me blankly with emotions shadowed on his face.
I'm grown up now and I have dreams of my own and a man I love to crown it all. I'm not ready for marriage, talkless of an arranged marriage with some kind of Billionaire I'm not acquainted with.
Dad took a few steps towards me as he slowly hugged me, he messaged his hand at my back, as he heaved a slow exhale,
“Sorry, Sophie,”
I slept on the bed with my face covered in my soggy pillow, which got wet as a result of my weeping.
“Hello Mr. Davies, my Boss, Mr. Damian asked me to bring this.”
I hastily got up from the bed making sure I knew who it was. I snuck to the door making sure no one heard the sound of the door creaking in my effort to see what was going on in the sitting room.
“What is it?”
“The wedding dress,” the voice calm yet low-pitched
Dad collected it from him and he left.
Heck! This is happening very fast. Is this a dream or what? I'm sure I'm dreaming right? I pinched my neck and it hurt as I exclaimed, "Eww,” so I am not dreaming, it's for real.
Sophie,” Dad's voice snapped me out of my thoughts as I stood lost in my dreamland. I gave him a ‘what is it’ kind of look with my puffy red eyes.
The wedding dress is here you have to–” He stopped when he noticed I quickly rushed to my robe, searching through my clothes as fast as I could so I could get dressed into something good and my breath seemed uncontrollable.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing, Dad,” I rushed into the bathroom and changed into my blue con gown. I got out and his gaze followed me everywhere I went, surprisingly.
What are you up to, Sophie? He
growled astoundedly but I picked up my handbag reluctantly, staring at him as I did not explain.
“Sophie, come back here,” He yelled.
SOPHIA I stormed out of the house without looking back or caring to listen to my Dad as he called behind me. I just can't sit and watch my humble self get married to a man I haven't seen in my entire life. My greatest fear is he is a billionaire. Who knows if he is Christian Grey kind of Billionaire? God forbid. I have to put in my best. I love Jimmy. What will become of him if he knows that I am getting married to someone else? He won't take it likely on himself because Jimmy loves me too. I have to go talk to him. He has been supportive since I have been with him, He is caring and to crown it all he respects me a lot. I can't break a good man's heart. My heart won't let me be since my guilty conscience will deal the hell out of me.“Take me to Nw 7th Avenue Rd.” I got into the car so I will go talk to Jimmy. He is not that rich but he has a reasonable number of well-to-do friends. He can come up with something reasonable and also get some help from his friends since they are his f
SOPHIA I guess it's over between us. I have to face my dilemma. Life can be so frustrating, I can't believe all this is happening at the same time. Whatever it may be, let it be. I sat on the chair with my hand resting on the adorned table with beautiful flowers in the center as I looked at the glittering smooth surface. My fingers tapping on the surface, honestly my gaze is here but my mind isn't here, I kept pondering on all that happened just today, the more I tried not to think about it the more it kept drawing the picture of Jimmy in my head. I heaved a sigh, “Barman, come” as I motioned my hand at him with my eyes sank in frustration. “I am here, Madam.” He said with a mellifluous voice, as he bowed to me. My face was stern, “give me a bottle of Vodka”“Okay ma,” as he leaves. “Wait,” my voice struck him and he stopped in his tracks suddenly and walked back to me. “Make it 5 bottles,” I said slowly as I narrowed my eyes on him. “Don't be surprised, is this the first time
SOPHIA “I told you to get up and let me take you away from here but you claimed to be so stubborn. Keep quiet,” His voice firm as he struts towards the door. He walked with me over his shoulder to a black GLC 300 SUV and pulled the back door open. He dropped me recklessly, “Now don't be so vicious, you had only alcohol and you are behaving like this? what could have become of you if you took the drink that guy gave to you.” As he bent over me to buckle my seat belt, I pushed him away, “Leave me alone.” He glared at me, “Silly, Don't push me, and don't push your Savior.” He finally buckled my belt and closed the door. “Andy, Drive.” The driver nodded subserviently, “Yes Sir.” As he moved the car. He broke the calm atmosphere in the Car “Where is your house?” I'm not telling him I don't know him, what if he is a bad guy? And who knows if he has succeeded in kidnapping me? I made him look at me as I pulled him by the collar, I looked into his eyes, “I'm not telling you, Go to he
SOPHIA I stood with the veil covering my face as sweat trickled down my face,“I don't think I can do this.”My Dad who stood beside me held my hand as we moved to the sofa in the room I got dressed to proceed to the church“You can, my daughter.”I looked at my Dad intently with emotions all over my face as I heaved a sigh of relief placing my hands on my chest, “ I have made up my mind to do this but I'm so scared, Dad.”“Just do this for our sake, For the sake of your aging father, please Sophia don't mess this up it's our only hope,” Dad said sorrowfully, his brows creased as his eyes brimmed with tears he couldn't help but let it shimmer down his cheek. He is truly doing this because he has no other option and I have to make things right by marrying Damian whom I will get to know on the Altar as the priest declares us Husband and Wife I looked at Dad as I held his hand tightly in my arms and I didn't know when my sight was blurry with tears. Seeing my Dad cry, He is so emotion
SOPHIA My sight first caught on the big and wide bed neatly dressed with white bedsheets and four pillows at the head of it, My lips opened in Wow, Honestly, this place is amazing, the whole bedroom is white, everything from the curtains on the windows to the floor, the couch, the wardrobe and the chandelier also shimmering with pure brightness. The atmosphere can make one feel so relaxed and if they should be worried and perplexed this room will chill them off. I slowly turned and looked at Damian whose intense eyes were already fixed on me with his arms akimbo as I silently inspected his whole bedroom just with my eyes. I stared at him with unease lingering in my heart which came as a result of the effect his sight had on me, “Your Bedroom is lovely,” I said quickly as I slightly nodded my head and let a gulp down my throat but he just winked at me, “You are welcome,” as he sat on the bed removing his jacket suit from his body. I cleared my throat as he looked at me in response,
SOPHIA I observed the proximity between us as the gap was not up to an inch. I took a few steps backward but at every step I took backward he took a step forward, every step he took seemed like a time bomb ticking as my heart hit hard against my chest. I halted when my back touched the wall and I couldn't move any longer. My face austere, “S-Stay a-away,” I stuttered. But he seems unfazed as a smile hits the edges of his lips. “You are my wife, just get that clear. You are now-” He halts as he gets closer to me again, locking his gaze on me, “Miss Kingsley.” His hardened face splashed with smiles again. “So I ask again, don't you want to talk about that night? We met at the bar and came back home together?”“There is nothing to talk about, Mr. Damian.” I managed to say as he sneered. His brows furrowed, “Really?” “Yeah.” As I managed to step aside so I could get away from him, He suddenly reached out his hand and placed it on the wall firmly preventing me from walking away. I mo
SOPHIA I sat on the couch as I am binge-watching reels on my IG before I will later go to sleep, the door opened and I cocked my head just to see Damian saunter in. My sight fixed on him as he walked straight to the bed and let himself fall carelessly on the bed. He must be so stressed out. Since he is indoors right now with me this watching of reel stuff is on hold for now. “Come to bed when you are done.”I glanced at him nonchalantly just to see him sitting up as he yawned, covering his hand on his wide-open mouth. “I'm sleeping on the couch,” I said in a stern voice. He narrowed his gaze at me,"Okay, since you say so, I respect your decision,” He said with no emotion on his fine face. He reached out his hand to me with a quilt in his hand which he pulled from the bed, “How about this?” I gave him a ‘what is it for’ kind of look wondering why he would take away the quilt he has on the bed and hand it over to me. I frowned, are you for real. ?His voice firm, “Miss Kingsley I
SOPHIA I saw an elegant woman between the ages of 30 - 35 years old with an illuminated face, “Good morning, Madam,” her voice was mellifluous. I wasn't expecting anyone to be here and hearing the door creak stunned me. I forced a smiled at her, “Good morning. How are you?”“I'm fine madam.” She blushed, “Hope you had a wonderful night?” I nodded, “Yea, my sleep was splendid.” Packing my unkempt hair away from my face. “My name is Selena, I'm Mr. Damian’s cook. I must say you are a very beautiful Madam and lucky since I have started working in this house I haven't seen him bring any lady home. You must be very different. You are welcome Ma.”Hearing her say Mr. Cold hadn't brought a woman home since she started working with him chilled my soul and I couldn't help but blush foolishly, “Awnnnnn” “My name is Sophia Davies, so you can just call me Sophia.”I was so wrong in taking him to be some kind of Christian Grey Billionaire. I never intended to sleep on this bed at first thi
