38. A divorce

I hated the situation more than I cared to admit.

It had been more than a week and I still couldn’t get a hold of Abigail. I knew where she lived; obviously, I’ve had things delivered there, but I didn’t know how it would look if I suddenly showed up.

Work was supposed to start in two days anyway. Maybe I’d see her then. We could talk about everything.

I’d tell her that Christine and I were no longer married. Christine was smarter than she seemed because, by the time I was back in New York, which was the next day, she had signed the papers already. If she hadn’t, I would have taken her to court and she knew she wouldn’t win.

That didn’t mean the problem with her was completely settled. I didn’t know what she told my parents and hers, but everyone was calling me and I was not in the mood to talk to anyone except Abigail. It was just my poor luck that she blocked my line.

I even sent her a message to her work email but she ignored it. I couldn’t even blame her. No one
