Chapter three

Mia’s pov

We were on the training grounds, Trevor didn’t have practice today so he was sparring with me, “you’re getting better, might have to stop going so easy on you” he said huffing, standing up after I put him on his knees, “you assumed I needed you to go easy on me, I never said that” I said with a smirk.

“Getting cocky are we” he said flexing his arms, “alright then, time to bring you down a peg” he said taking a fighting stance, “you could try” I said mimicking his movements, knowing it was about to get serious.

I took a deep breath and charged at him, throwing a punch, which he caught but I was hoping he would, I twisted my body around him and kicked the back of his knee, making him fall but he pulled on my hand, bringing me forward and then elbowed me in the gut.

Ouch.

I backed away as he got up, he charged at me, bringing his knee to my gut, I blocked it with both my hands and ducked as he was about to punch me, swiping my feet under him, causing him to fall.

He grabbed my leg just as I was backing away from him, he pulled, making me lose my balance and fall and just as I was getting my bearings, he straddled my waist and brought his fist down towards my face.

I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the hit that would hurt for a whole week but it didn’t come, “I win princess” Trevor said standing up.

I huffed as he helped me up, “you’re getting stronger Mia, pretty soon you’ll be putting him on his ass” aunt Kenya said patting my shoulder, “that will never happen” Trevor said and his dad chuckled, “I remember saying never too” he said and I chuckled before uncle Bryce joined us.

“Hey you two, where’s Britney?” he asked, Trevor and I looked at each other before he patted my shoulder with a sneaky smile, “I promised uncle James I’d visit him at the border, I’ll see you at dinner” he said before taking off into the woods, leaving me stunned, that little…

“That was strange” said Aunt Kenya with raised eye brows, “where is my daughter? I haven’t seen her today and her link is closed” Uncle Bryce said, squinting his eyes at me, “I last saw her at school, she must be at one of her club meetings or something” I said trying not to sound as nervous as I felt and telling half-truths was a good idea too.

The last time I saw her was at school but she left with Cole and I had no idea where they went and it wasn’t my place to tell her father that she found her mate, “she doesn’t have any club meetings today” he said folding his arms on his chest.

“Really? Could have sworn she did” I said with a nervous chuckle, “oh shoot, I have a paper to finish and loads of homework, I have to go” I said backing up, making sure to put some distance before I could bolt out of there, “you do your homework at school or before training, what is going on Mia?” Uncle Bryce said, making me curse on the inside, “nothing, nothing’s going on and like I said, loads of homework, couldn’t finish before training, see you at dinner” I said, turning around and ran away.

I couldn’t stand the questioning and I hope for her sake that she doesn’t miss dinner, Uncle Bryce was too hard to fool, he was the beta for a reason.

Instead of going to the pack house, I went to my parent’s house, knowing no one would think to look for me there, “took you longer that I thought it would to get out of that” I heard Trevor say as I walked into the house, he was eating a banana with a smirk o his face, “coward” I said going into the living room.

“I am not a coward, I just know how to choose my battles” he said throwing himself on the couch beside me and wrapping a hand around my shoulder. He put his feet on the coffee table and turned on the TV, I mumbled curses under my breath as he put on one of my favourite movies, “suck up” I said making him laugh, “can’t have you mad me” he said as we watched the movie.

We were just in the middle of the movie when my dad linked me and told me to come to dinner, “it’s dinner time, come on I’m hungry” I said getting up from the couch and extremely comfortable human pillow.

I had laid my head on his lap and feet on the couch to get comfortable, Trevor didn’t even say anything because we always do this, I always use him as a pillow.

We walked into the pack house and found our seats at the head of the table with our parents but Britney still wasn’t there. Her mother had a worried look and her dad was looking at me and Trevor expectantly, I gulped down the saliva that was quickly filling my mouth, not ready for the questions I knew were waiting for us.

“Do I need to ask or are you going to start talking?” Uncle Bryce asked raising an eyebrow, making me shift in my seat, “Mia, where is Britney? It’s late and we haven’t seen her all day and judging from the nervous energy you’re giving off, I’d say you know where she is” my dad said and I gulped again, shit, I don’t want to tell them where she is, because one, it’s not my place and two, I have no clue where she and Cole went after school.

“And don’t even think we haven’t noticed the two of you exchanging glances, you both know where she is so start talking” Aunt Kenya said giving Trevor one of her no nonsense looks, making him look down at the plate of food that was put in front of him by one of the omegas.

“I, we, she… uhm, well..” I stuttered, none of it making sense, goddess Britney where are you. “Britney!” Aunt Amanda exclaimed standing up, rushing toward the entrance of the dining area. I looked up at the entrance and there she was, I sighed in relief and slumped back in my chair, oh thank you goddess moon, you saved my ass again.

While I was basking in my relief, Britney, on the other hand had a huge smile on her face and I didn’t miss Cole right behind her, with a smile of his own.

Aunt Amanda hugged her daughter tightly, “where the hell were you? I was so worried” she said to her daughter, who only laughed and hugged back, “mom, I’m fine, I promise” Britney said with a gentle smile. Something was different about her, her usual glow was somehow brighter, her smile had that twinkle you see in ads and her happiness was seeping out her pores; maybe that’s what finding your mate does. Her mom suddenly back up from her, giving Britney a curious look, she looked at Cole then looked back at Britney, sniffed the air a bit and gasped, eyes falling on her daughter’s neck.

I looked at her neck just as everyone else did and oh my goddess I couldn’t believe it, she was marked and judging from her still slightly flushed appearance, they fully mated, these assholes are literally fully mated.

A loud growl snapped me back to reality, Uncle Bryce had a deadly look on his face, he stood up so fast, the chair he was sitting on pushed back hard and fell, “you little shit” he gritted as he made his way towards the newly mated couple, “you marked my daughter!” he roared as he lunged for Cole.

Everything was happening so fast I was barely keeping up, Uncle Bryce had Cole by the throat and from the red face, we could all tell it wasn’t just a little warning squeeze; that man was trying to kill his daughter’s mate.

“Dad please stop!” Britney cried out, trying to get her father off of her mate, unsuccessfully that is, because Cole’s face started to turn blue, “Bryce stop!” Aunt Amanda yelled pulling Britney away so she wouldn’t get hurt but from her pale face, I’d say she was feeling Cole’s pain and it didn’t look like Uncle Bryce could hear all the screams for him stop.

Alpha Blake had to step in and separate the two, holding his beta back from killing his daughter’s mate while Cole fell to the floor in a coughing fit.

Britney rushed to her mate just as her mother rushed to hers, this escalated way too quickly.

“Bryce, calm down” the Alpha said to him but he wouldn’t have it, “this little punk touched my baby girl Blake, let me kill him!” he struggling to get out of the Alpha’s hold.

“He’s her mate!” Aunt Amanda yelled at him and I swear I saw all the fight leave his body, "what?” he asked looking at Britney helping her mate up, a large nasty red mark on his throat; that was definitely going to bruise.

“Congratulations Bryce, you just tried to kill you son in law” my dad said and I face palmed myself, “Mika!” Aunt Kenya scolded, not the time for your dark humour dad.

“Is he really your mate?” Uncle Bryce asked Britney and she nodded; I guess everything happened so fast, he didn’t really pay attention to what was really happening, he just wanted to end the boy who touched his little girl.

“Please don’t do that when I find my mate” I whispered to my dad and he flat out laughed in my face, I knew he was going to poison my mate for sure.

After a few apologies were exchanged, none from Uncle Bryce to Cole, we finally ate dinner in silence and not a comfortable one might I add.

Uncle Bryce kept sending death glares towards Cole but his daughter would glare and he would huff and look away, “when are you moving out Britney? From the marks on both your necks, I doubt you’ll be sleeping alone from now on” my dad teased, making Britney turn a dark shade of red and I bit on my tongue to keep my laughter in.

Trevor; could not keep it in and chocked on his food, “Mika be quiet please” Aunt Kenya said with a tight smile and eyes shining with laughter, Aunt Amanda paled and Uncle Bryce growled.

“You are not moving out!” Uncle Bryce gritted out, slamming the table, “honey, please calm down and be reasonable, they’re marked and mated, it will be impossible to separate them” Aunt Amanda said placing her hand over Uncle Bryce’s fisted one.

“Not to mention the torture separation will cause them, take it from me, being away from your mate is the worst thing ever” Alpha Blake said looking at Aunt Kenya.

Trevor told me about what happened between his parents, how some rogue came between them and all that.

“Dad, I’ll still be here, it’s not like we’re moving to our own house or something” Britney said trying to reassure her father but it didn’t go as planned.

Cole cleared his throat, making Britney look in his direction, it seemed they just may be moving out of the pack house after all, “actually I was hoping we could move into my house, my parents moved in with my grandparents because they are elderly and said I could have the house. I was going to tell you about it tonight, we could use the privacy” Cole said to his blushing mate, looks like they’re leaving the pack house.

“I.. I don’t know what to say” Britney whispered blushing even redder.

“How about no! Privacy my ass!!” Uncle Bryce exclaimed, his own face growing red, in anger, “isn’t it a bit too soon for you to be moving in together?” Aunt Amanda asked, worry shining in her eyes, “can we let the kids make their own decisions? They’re both eighteen and are fully mated, I’m sorry Bryce but you don’t have a say in this” Alpha Blake said, making Uncle Bryce deflate.

He knew the Alpha was right, it wasn’t his choice to make and he couldn’t keep them apart without hurting his own daughter, protective as he was of Britney, he couldn’t protect her from her own fate and Cole would take good care of his daughter, he was a great guy and was head over heels for Britney.

“You grew up too fast, I barely got time to get used to you leaving your bed and playing like kids your age” Uncle Bryce sighed into his hands, “it seems like just yesterday when you depended on us for everything, and then you were healthy and strong and didn’t need us as much. Now you have a mate, you won’t need us at all” Aunt Amanda said with a few tears in her eyes.

“Mom, dad, I’ll always need you guys in my life, but this part I have to do on my own, with my mate” Britney said taking her mom’s hand and kissing it, “oh my baby” Aunt Amanda cooed, hugging her daughter.

“Should have had more kids” my dad said and I burst out laughing, he had the worst timing. “Mika, layoff” my other dad said with a chuckle, “I’m just saying, if they had more, they wouldn’t be obsessing over Britney so much” he said with a shrug and continued eating like he didn’t just say that.

“You have one kid too” Aunt Kenya said with a smirk and I turned to look at him, “who is already living on her own” he said with a smug smile, “I understand that she is grown and will soon find her mate” he continued but my other dad looked at him with a shocked expression. “You say that with so much confidence, one would swear you don’t snoop around Mia’s room when she goes out” dad with a smirk of his own.

“James!” my dad said with a horrified expression, “you snoop around my room?” I asked with a raised eyebrow, making him chuckle nervously, “just a little and only sometimes” he said patting my head and turning to his plate, “try everyday” Aunt Kenya said and my mouth dropped.

“What?!” I screeched, not believing that my dad had been snooping around my room, “throw me under the bus would you, aren’t you supposed to be my best friend?” dad questioned aunt Kenya but I knew it was to stray from the topic at hand.

“We’ll get to that after you explain why you’ve been snooping around my stuff” I said with a no nonsense face, "don’t give me that look, I’m your parent” he said rolling his eyes. “I believe the child asked you a question” Uncle Bryce said with a smirk, looking like he was enjoying the pay back but my dad ignored us all and continued eating, unbelievable.
