Samantha POV

Dinner with Kaleb's parents was a blast. Looking at them you can see why Kaleb is such a nice person. Maybe I was too hard on him. Perhaps he truly only wanted to be my friend.

Kaleb's father told me the whole story about how he found out that Mary was his mate. His parents pushed him to find him a slave. They didn't want their baby boy to do any of the demeaning housework. So he went to the human island and felt a pull towards Mary, and he bought her. At that moment, he did not understand the mate pull yet.

After a while, he became protective of her. He didn't allow anyone to say bad things about her. Neither he nor his wolf understood what is going on.

Once they were both of age, then and only then, did the pieces finally fall together. His wolf wanted to claim her then and there. He didn't want to because he knew what trouble it would bring into the family.
