CHAPTER THREE

Maddie yawned when the customer left. She hasn't gotten a good sleep because she’s constantly waking up. She feels that someone is with her in her room but she can’t see anything. She wanted to think that she’s just being paranoid but her gut feel tells her that what she’s thinking is real.

Theo sat in his usual spot with a newspaper in his hands which he can use to cover his face if ever Maddie looked at his place. He feels guilty seeing Maddie tired for not getting enough sleep. He couldn’t help himself but to watch Maddie rest. It’s the only time he can be close to her.

Maddie felt she’s being watched again so she looked around but no one had direct attention to her. She shook her head before she tried to focus.

‘It’s just in your mind, Maddie.’ she said to herself before she started to work again.

Theo, on the other hand, is bothered. He wants to stop making Maddie uneasy but he also wants to watch her. It is the only way he knows to be with her. Despite their distance, he still feels that they are together. He was about to leave when the world stopped moving. Theo stood and rushed to Maddie. He stood in front of her, ready to shield her using his body. He looked around alarmingly.

He still hasn’t frozen time so another god must be on earth. Despite being the highest ranking god, he knows to himself that not everyone is in his power. There are gods waiting for him to make a mistake in order to dethrone him. He’s ready if ever an uprising happens but not where Maddie’s life and safety is at risk.

A gust of wind opened the doors that caused Theo to be more alert and ready. In an instant, Arthur is standing in front of him. Theo gritted his teeth at the sight of his brother but Arthur, the god of the sky, just looked at him calmly. He peeked at Theo’s back but he quickly blocked Maddie from his sight.

“Playing the prince charming, eh?” Arthur taunted that caused Theo to clench his jaw.

Arthur shook his head as he continuously clicked his tongue. He looked at his brother then at Maddie. Theo didn’t like it so he pushed his chest that caused thunder to erupt in the sky. It means that Arthur is angry but Theo does not care. He hates how Arthur glanced at Maddie. He knows his brother well. Arthur always wants what Theo has.

“Go back to your palace, Arthur.” Theo growled.

Arthur hissed before he smirked at his brother.

“Why don’t you go back with me?”

“I am your god, so do as I say.” Theo said authoritatively that caused Arthur to go serious. He hates it when Theo, his younger brother, tells him that he is his superior.

“I can take over easily now that you’re playing house here but I am not a dirty player, brother.” Theo didn’t react as he’s used to Arthur openly saying his desire to take over. It was supposed to be his throne but the titans didn’t see him worthy enough.

“Come back. There’s a dispute among the other gods and the creatures.” Theo’s brows met as he listened to Arthur.

“Why are you saying this to me? You are not even my messenger.” Arthur scoffed at his younger brother before shaking his head.

“I want to fight a god who’s powerful, not someone who is fit to be a stalker.” With that, Arthur vanished into thin air.

Theo clenched his teeth at Arthur’s remark. Everything went back to normal so he quickly snapped his fingers and vanished before Maddie could even see him. Theo didn’t go back to his world because he still wants to be with Maddie. He cannot afford leaving her now that he is used to her presence. He decided to gamble. He will show himself to Maddie and tell her everything because he will take her to his world.

Maddie went out of the bathroom while wiping her hair. She feels refreshed now that she took a bath after a long tiring day. She’s humming her favorite song while making a sandwich. She just had her dinner at the restaurant before going home but she’s still hungry. She’s still humming with her mouth full as she makes her way to her bedroom.

“Ahhh!” She coughed when he choked on her food. She was surprised to see Theo sitting on her bed.

Theo was shocked and quickly went to Maddie’s side. She coughed even more when Theo started rubbing her back. When she started to feel okay, Maddie quickly elbowed Theo’s stomach but since he’s a god, he didn’t feel any pain.

Maddie was surprised at what she saw so she quickly distanced herself from Theo. She remembers him and couldn’t believe her eyes because she saw him again. For a moment, she forgot that he got inside her room.

“How the hell did you get in?” Maddie asked in disbelief as her hands tried to search for a possible weapon. Theo saw what she’s doing and that made him smile. He finds it cute.

“Why are you smiling?” Maddie asked again with fear laced in her voice. Theo’s smile disappeared before he bit his lower lip. Maddie was distracted for a second because of how hot Theo looked.

“You should calm down, Madeline.” Theo said in a serious tone before he took a step forward but Maddie raised her hand.

“Don’t even try coming near me. I know mixed martial arts.” It was a lie that she came up out of fear and Theo sensed it that almost made him chuckle.

“Listen to me, Madeline. I won’t hurt you so listen to me.” Theo said calmly but Maddie can’t hear him. The pounding of her heart is blocking her hearing.

“What do you want? You can’t rob me because I have nothing. I will also fight for my life if ever you’re here to assault me. Even though you’re handsome, I won’t surrender my body.” Maddie blabbered and Theo couldn’t hold back his laughter.

Maddie’s brows met because of Theo’s reaction. She also saw it as an opportunity to attack him. Maddie grabbed the picture frame from her side and quickly aimed it at Theo’s head but he caught his hand. He took the frame before holding both of her hands. Now, they are just a few inches away from each other.

Theo gulped the urge to taste her lips. The rosy pink color of her lips are tempting him to lick and suck them. Maddie’s face heated due to their closeness and before he can take advantage of their distance, Maddie pushed him away with all her strength. Theo thanked her for that because he might not stop himself if they stayed in that position longer.

Maddie glared at him so Theo sighed. “Listen, Madeline.”

“Spit it out then leave.” Maddie said in annoyance so Theo took a deep breath. He can feel his heart race as he is about to reveal the truth to Maddie.

“I am Theo, the ultimate god and I am in love with you.” He said while looking at Maddie’s eyes.

Maddie’s face slowly softened before she bursted laughing. Theo’s brows met as he watched Maddie’s reaction. He couldn’t help but to feel offended by it. He just professed his love for her yet she saw it as something funny.

“Come with me and I’ll shower you with my love.” Theo took a step closer to her. Maddie’s laughter died down then she looked at Theo as if he just grew another head.

“I knew you’re weird but not this weird.” She scoffed before looking at him in disbelief.

“You will believe me if you agree to come with me to my world.” Theo pleaded but Maddie firmly shook her head.

“You’re crazy, mister. You need to see someone.”

Theo felt his heart as Maddie kept rejecting him. He is offended and disheartened with Maddie thinking that everything is just a joke. He’s a god and he’s used to getting what he wants but now that Maddie didn’t accept his love, he felt the need to disappear eternally.

Theo looked at Maddie one last time and she noticed the pain in his eyes but before she could even blink, Theo vanished. Maddie’s eyes went wide as she rushed to where Theo was standing but he was really gone. She wiped her eyes and even slapped her face but she never saw Theo again.
