06~ A familiar Voice

"What do you want?"

There was a dead silence on the other end and Hills was about to make the move of disconnecting the call when she spoke up.

"Hello darling"

Upon hearing her voice and the pet name she called him, Hills clenched his fist tightly and his grip around the phone tightened as well.

Nothing frustrates him as much as she does. Hills never for once thought that she was going to ever call him after so many years, but here he is, speaking with her on the phone.

"What do you want Martina?" Hills asked again and she chuckled.

"Can't I call to check up on you, Hills?"

"No you can't Martina"

Again, Martina chuckled and it was slowly making Hills upset. Her chuckle reminded him so much of that particular day she left him 5 years ago. He'd never forget that.

"C'mon Hills.. Don't be so rude to me, Except if the past still hunts you like it does" There was a hint of mockery in Martina's voice.

"The past.. Has nothing to do with the present. Don't you dare bring up the past" Hills was calm.

His heart was pounding really fast, as if it's about to explode out of sheer anger.

"Sorry darling but I have to bring up the past. It's the only conversation we should have after such a long time don't you think? Or, you haven't completely moved on from it"

Hills sucked in a deep breath and exhaled deeply.

"Why did you call?"

"To ask how you're doing. Heard you're back to New York after so many years"

Hills was silent.. He has nothing to say to her so keeping quiet would be the best thing to do.

" Well, I'm glad you're back. Welcome back by the way..Oh! And..., you forgot to ask about Miles Hendrick. Don't you want to know how he's doing?"

This was her plan after all, to get him upset. Her sole purpose of calling is to taunt him, well.. He's not going to fall for that.

"Listen Martina, It will do us both good if you don't call me! I'd advise you to focus on your path while I focus on mine. Don't try to call me again.... I was busy when you called and I'd like to get back to work now.. " Without giving Martina a chance to speak, he hung up the call.

Hills Sebastian and Martina Shepherd were engaged to each other 5 years ago. They were both the talk of the Town at that time. They were both the headlines of every newspaper and magazine. Not being the Media type, he made sure there were no pictures of him or Martina.

Hills loved Martina so dearly and he thought she loved him back. He never for once imagined that she would be having an affair with his best friend, Miles Hendrick.

Martina had Hills deceived and made him lavish his time and money, making preparations for the wedding.

On the D-Day for them to get married, Martina found it the perfect time to humiliate and make Hills look like a fool in front of all his guests. She abandoned him at the altar and made away with Miles.

Hills Sebastian did not realize what was happening at the moment. He kept waiting for Martina at the altar, thinking the delay was because of traffic, not until he got a text from her.

At that point, he knew he had been ditched by his so-called fiancee. The woman he had loved so much and left everything for. Hills was heartbroken, he tried reaching out to her, so he could plead and maybe she'd change her mind but he couldn't. She blocked every possible way he could reach her.

Till this very moment, he still doesn't know why Martina would ditch him for Miles. What did Miles offer that he can't give to her? However, he was sure of one thing and that is the fact that he has just been betrayed by the two people he thought he could trust.

He was sad and depressed, it's more of the reason he went out of New York. He stayed that long to be able to let go of Martina completely.

And then today, Martina has the guts to call him after 5 years.

Hills tried to wave the thoughts on the past from his mind and focus on his work but his mind was already disorganized. He couldn't concentrate on anything at the moment as he couldn't stop thinking about what Martina did to him.

Why does she have to call and ruin his day. He was already having a great day but she just had to spoil his mood with some nonsensical talk.

Not being able to focus, Hills stood up and walked outside his office. He just wants to take a brief walk around his company. Maybe that would distract him a little.

------------

After placing her contact and details with Daniel, Regina was briefed on what her duty as a secretary entails. She was the company's secretary, meaning she doesn't work directly for the CEO. she would not have to see Mr. Hills all the time.. except he calls for her personally. She was made to understand that the Boss has his personal assistant that runs mild errands for him.

Regina couldn't have been more relieved than she already is. The fact that she won't be seeing Hills Sebastian all the time made her extremely happy because she has no idea what he could be up to. She still can't figure out why he gave her the Job. Nevertheless, she's happy he did.

Next time, she'll learn to control her emotions, she might not be this lucky.

Daniel led her to her Office, and she was marveled by it. She loved the way her office was decorated and well spacious. It wasn't entirely an office tho, but it looks really great.

"Thanks Daniel"

"It's nothing. I'm your referral after all so it's my job to do this. Please let me know if you have more questions and I'll be glad to answer them"

Regina smiled and nodded. "There's no questions but if I ever get confused at some point, I'll surely come to you"

"Great! I'll get back to work. Just settle down and work on those files over there.." He pointed at some files which were on her desk. "..When you're done, you have them submitted at the HR department. I'll get back to work now"

Regina thanked Daniel again and retired to her desk when Daniel left. She was glad that there was someone like Daniel.

He seems like a really nice person.. Well, they say the first impression always speaks of one's character.

From her observation, the other employees seem to be minding their businesses and going about their routine. Well, She's not here to make friends but to work.

Hours passed and Regina was done sorting the files. She smiled in satisfaction and made her way to the HR department. It was easy to locate because Daniel already gave her the company's map.

She moved to the elevator and pressed it open. As the Elevator opened, Regina adjusted the files in her hand and was about to step in. She wasn't looking her way, so she bumped into Someone and the files she was holding spilled over the floor.

"Sorry.. Sorry" She said crouching down to pick up the papers, the person she bumped into said sorry also.

She found the voice familiar so she lifted her head up to stare at the individual who was also picking up the papers.

Gasping aloud, Regina stood up with widened eyes while staring down at Mr. Hills. She just bumped into her Boss, how careless could she be!. Why wasn't she looking her way?

What if this upsets him and he decides to fire her? This and so many other thoughts were running through her mind. This is just her first day at work,, she can't afford to get fired else Daphne would be really disappointed.
