A HUMAN

I got dressed excitedly and called four of my trusted underlings to accompany me. I told them that I had gotten a mate and was going to look for her. They were very surprised but happy for me. Even my wolf couldn't contain his excitement.

I knew our bond must be very strong because I could smell her scent from my Villa. It was so pleasant and I was sure that I had never perceived a scent that was so wonderful. All that was left now was to find my mate and accept her.

I would take her back with me and spend the whole of next week making love to her. I didn't know why I wasn't mated to her sooner but I was more than willing to make up for lost time.

I drove around the City of Houston with my underlings driving behind me. I had been trying to locate my mate for a few hours by following her scent but it was proving to be a real chore. I had a feeling that I was being led to places she had been to or worked at.

I had just come out of a bridal store and still couldn't find her. At first, I thought she worked there but since I didn't know her name, the only thing I could do was describe her and the manager who was extremely terrified of me, swore that they didn't know her.

I decided to check all the places her scent led me to and after two hours, I finally found myself in front of a church. "Really?" Was the first thing that came to my mind.

I sat inside my car feeling frustrated until I finally realized that a wedding was taking place. I thought about the bridal store I had gone into and figured that she could have escorted a friend or family member to get a wedding gown.

I asked my underlings to wait behind while I quickly walked to the church. Her scent became stronger, the more I got closer. I finally arrived at the door and smiled in relief. I was convinced that she was inside.

I didn't want to make a scene or scare anyone so, I wore a mask around my face and stood by the door as I scanned the seats, one after another.

I began to wonder if she was in the restroom when I couldn't find her but then the bride suddenly stood up and turned. I immediately recognized her. She was the same girl and she was much more beautiful in person.

My heart bubbled with so much love and I felt so happy. However, the happiness on my face disappeared when it occurred to me that she was about to marry someone else.

She seemed so happy that I began to wonder. Did she not feel the mate bond? If she was my mate, why was she happy to marry someone else? We had not met before so I knew for a fact that she hadn't rejected me yet. How was she able to cope?

I stared at her as a frown began to appear on my face. I didn't like being betrayed and I hated traitors so why was my mate betraying me even before we met? Then it suddenly hit me. She wasn't a werewolf. She was a human.

What sort of joke was this? I could not remember the last time I felt so disappointed. How could I be mated to a human? Even the omegas in my pack had werewolves as mates. How could the strongest werewolf alive be mated to a human?

I turned and began to walk away from the church. I had wasted my time for nothing. If the moon goddess had decided to play a joke on me, then I had to hand it to her. She successfully did so.

My underlings stared at me wondering why I had so much anger on my face. I was going to reject her when I got back to my Villa. There was no difference between doing it here or at home. She wasn't a werewolf and most certainly wasn't aware that I was her mate. I was going to keep it that way.

I ignored my underlings and opened the door of my car but then I paused when I overheard a conversation that involved my supposed mate.

One of the gifts I had was hearing from afar and this particular conversation caught my interest which was why I paid attention to it.

I heard the voice of a man and a girl speaking. The man was obviously inside his car alone and was assuring the girl on the phone in hushed tones, "don't be like this, please. You do know that the only reason why I am marrying Emily today is because of her mum's company.

Everything has already been willed to her and she would take over from her mum after our wedding. Just give me some time, once I take the company away from her, I will divorce her and marry you. You know you are the one I love and I'm doing all this for us.

Now, I don't want to keep her waiting anymore. I need to go into the church and say my vows. I'll talk to you after the wedding. I love you so much."

After speaking, the man ended the call and came out of the car. I watched him as he made his way into the church. I recalled the way the bride had smiled happily when she turned and felt an unfamiliar pain in my heart.

No, I couldn't let this happen. Even if she was just a weak human, she was still my mate. How could I watch her suffer injustice at the hands of this phony?

I put my hand under the driver's seat and took out my gun which I had hidden earlier because I didn't want my mate to see it since I didn't know what kind of person she was.

My underlings who were also standing stared at me in surprise wondering what I intended to do. I smiled at them and ordered. "Come with me, let's go get my mate."
