Upon entering the restaurant and sitting at one of the tables, this Matteo guy started chatting with Kat, leaving me out. I just watched them like an idiot. I'm not jealous, but this situation was uncomfortable, and what bothered me the most was that Kat hadn't been able to tell him that we were dating. That hurt.

"Don't you think she's cute?" Kat asked me, showing me a photo of a girl about ten years old.

I forced a smile and nodded. Kat handed the phone back to Matteo and continued talking to him, ignoring my presence.

"And what do you do, kid?" he asked me.

I stared at him. I could see how much of an idiot he was. I knew he'd say something to try to make me feel inferior. I knew guys like him.

"I'm a race car driver," I said proudly.

He started laughing and looked at me pitifully.

"And if that doesn't work out, what will you do next? Flip burgers for a living?" he asked.

I didn't look at Kat. I knew she would give me that look, asking me to calm down, but I couldn't. I felt so much
