Ch. 48

I was deep in the woods again, running for my life. Only this time there was no snow, no mountain. There was soft green grass under my feet. I was running toward a field of dark royal blue flowers. Their sweet scent wafted in the air, but the smell was not soothing. It did little to help the fear that was eating away at me.

The thought that if I stopped running I would die, continued to play in my head. Something dark and evil was chasing me, but I couldn't see or smell it. I could only sense it and hear it as it snapped twigs behind me. It was gaining on me and it felt like no matter how hard I pushed I couldn't speed up.

I made it to the clearing of flowers, stopping in the center, looking around. I knew it was probably a stupid idea, but for some reason I thought I'd be safe amongst the flowers. I saw it from the corner of my eye as it lunged for my throat. It's red eyes were the last things I saw as my head landed amongst the flowers away from my body.
