Ch. 56

Charles held me close as we made our way back to our room from Stoic's office. His presence and his touch were already calming my nerves.

"Rain." Charles spoke softly. "I'm not sure what it is you see or feel when you project, but know that I'm here and I won't let anything happen to you."

His words felt so reassuring to me, however the thought of him fighting an ancient one made my stomach hurt. I know that he's strong, stronger than most wolfs, but the ancient ones are so powerful. I hope that we never have to find out who would win, Charles or an ancient one.

He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb as our room came into view. I just wanted to curl back into bed and try to sleep. Although I know sleep won't find me again tonight. I wish I knew who was chained to the wall of a cave right now. I wish the tree would show me who was controlling the ancient ones. I wish I knew something that could actually help us.
