The next morning found me turning and tossing on my bed.Instinctively, I jerked off the bed, sitting up almost immediately. The clock by my bedside table read ten o'clock which meant I was late for school.I groaned, placing a head on my head and then I recalled it was the weekend."Fuck." I muttered. That single act of jerking awake cost me a serious headache. I fell heads-up back on my bed, still groaning.I sighed, remembering that I was going to be home all by myself today, at least until when my mum came home in the evening.I racked my brain for what to do throughout the whole day. Calling Kylie was out of the question. Throughout the entire time I called her, it all went straight to voicemail. I could do my assignment but I wouldn't use the entire day for that, right?Calling friends was also out of the question, because who would I call?I sighed all over and over again, thinking how pathetic my life was.I started off by brushing my teeth and having my bath, then breakfast.
RUBY'S POV.Watching Steyn bicker was sweet and by the time we were done shopping I was over excited that I thought I would die from it.It was worth it. I thought, recalling to memory all that had happened yesterday after I got home.Nana had rushed over to me, whining and smiling sadly."How are you, fairest of all Rubies." She'd asked tagging behind me as I made way into my room.I rolled my eyes, trying to recall The number of times I had told her to not call me that. It sounded so ancient and cliche."Don't call me that, Nana." I smiled faintly. "I'm good, I just need to rest. I'll be alright.""You look so pale." She observed, placing a hand on my forehead. "You're right. You should rest. But don't you need anything to eat or drink?""I'm fine Nana. Hunger is the least of my worries right now." I replied, raising my feets off the floor to lie properly on the bed. "My brothers, are they still around?" "Certainly." She replied, covering my legs properly with the duvet. "They wou
I barged into the house, arms full with the day's shopping and then it hit me that I had gotten in without having to unlock the door which I had locked before stepping out."Mum? You're home already?" I yelled, dumping the bags on the center table and standing by it just in case I needed to run out."Yes." She replied, coming down the stairs.I heaved a sigh of relief."I've been home all day." She continued. "Where did you go?""Out shopping with friends." I replied, pointing to the bags on the table for emphasis."Really?" She replied, her eyes landing on the bags on the table. "You didn't tell me about this friend."I rolled my eyes."You're barely home." I replied. "Besides, it slipped my mind."She sighed, going through the purchases in the bag. "These are all designers." She pointed out."Yes." I replied, anticipating the lecture that was to come."How can you accept this?" She asked, worry etched over her features. "How well do you know this friend? You don't know what they do
"Where have you been all my life?" I said with all seriousness when Kylie called back."Think of the Sky. You'll have your answer." She replied.I paused."What? You didn't see that coming?" She asked.I nodded my head."No, more like wondering why your reply is so cheesy."She laughed."Seriously, Kylie, what happened? Every Time I tried your line, it went straight to voicemail. I was worried.""Sorry." She apologized. "I should have told you but my phone went bad and I didn't have any more means of communicating with you."I nodded in understanding. "I get you. So, how about now? Have you worked it out?""Yeah, sure. Mum just got me a new phone so I'm all good." She replied. "You're settling in fine finally, I guess?"She asked.I nodded in affirmation. And then realizing that she couldn't see me, I spoke up. "Yeah. Sure.""Look at you!" She squealed into the receiver. "You're all grown up."I laughed."Like I wasn't before?"She gritted her teeth. "No, not in that lightThe newbie
Getting ready for school the next morning was total chaos. I struggled to get up from bed and using the bathroom was a total determination.I got to school early because mum had one of her early appointments with the walkers.I met a smiling Luke at the car park and a smug looking Alex."What's up?" I said to both of them and looking at Luke, I asked. "Why's he looking so smug?""He hates Mondays." Luke replied."Welcome to the club bro." I patted his back and swatted off Luke's hand when he attempted to pat my head.Alex eyed me wearily without saying anything and then grinned."If that was someone else, you'll definitely be six feet in the ground now and buried.""But because it's me?" I asked, taking a turn left and entering into the hallway, Alex and Luke by my side.I noticed that every now and then, students who had formed where talking in whispers and looking our way."I think we should part Ways here." I told them. "I don't like the stares I get whenever I'm around you two.""R
It turned out that Ruby and I shared the same homeroom. She was just messing with my head!"Do you want to come around after class?" She asked. "It's so boring having to stay at home with just Alex."I laughed. "How about your older brothers?"She rolled her eyes. "They're barely home." She whined. "Please."She clasped her hands together and gave me the puppy dog eye which I couldn't resist."Alright, I'll go. But it's not a promise." I told her. "I need to ask my mum first.""I'm sure she'll say yes." Ruby replied."I'm sure whatever it is you're discussing can wait till after homeroom." Mr. Darius, our homeroom teacher said to us.Alex scoffed. "Yeah. I agree with Mr. Darius for once. The class is boring already as it seems, if you two keep talking and interrupting his class, it means we're doomed forever."Mr Darius turned red In embarrassment as the class erupted into laughter.I rolled my eyes. This boy was painfully annoying. One look at Mr. Darius told me that he was already t
"Jenner didn't mean what she said about you dying, you know that right?" I said to Ruby during gym.She smiled. "Ofcourse, Jenner likes to talk shit. I guess she's still bitter."I nodded. "I like to tell myself that she's not worth the hassle.""Definitely." Ruby agreed."We're dividing ourselves into teams for the hundred meter hurdle today. Pick your partner's." Coach said, stepping into the gym. There was a lot of murmuring and disagreement, obviously.I wasn't the only one who hated gym.I stood, contemplating which team to join , when I noticed that Jenner was picking girls for her team. Wasn't it supposed to be consensual?Like, I thought you were supposed to pick a team you wanted to be on?I shrugged, brushing the thought aside. A loud snarl drew my attention to where Ruby stood glaring at Jenner."What's wrong?" I asked. "If eyes could kill, yours would.""That bitch Jenner. She's taking the best girls in hurdling to be on her team!!"Oh? I raised a brow. So that was it? Trus
" Why's he the one picking us up?" I asked Ruby, on our way to the car park."Who?" She asked, sticking a stray hair behind her ears."Sky ofcourse." I rolled my eyes. "Stop pretending like you don't know."She giggled. "Ok. Sorry. But can you drive?""No?" I replied rhetorically."Sky's picking me up because I can't drive. Alex said he had somewhere to go to with Luke.""Oh. Okay." I said, not wanting to drag the topic on further. "Is he here yet already?""Uhhhrrmm-" her words caught in her throat. "I guess.""You guess?" I repeated,."Yeah sure." She nodded. "You see the blue Tesla over there? Looks like his but we won't know by just standing here."They must really come from money. I shrugged. Why would he even drive a Tesla to school where he knows there were lots of fangirls? He's such a show off. "Alright." I replied. "Let's get going before I change my mind.""No you wouldn't." She pinched my cheeks. "You don't have to be so shy, you know?"I laughed, pausing my lips. "What
